Is 50% wool, 50% other stuff. Can I stick it in the washing machine on wool wash?

I would, what else are you going to do with it?

Soaking first might be an idea - in cold water.

naturalbaby · 12/12/2016 14:15

I would on a delicate/wool/hand wash cycle, and have in the past.

Fadingmemory · 12/12/2016 14:20

Let the coat dry and brush off as much mud as possible before you put it in the machine. What colour is the coat? If it is dark it might come out OK, if light there may be stains left behind.

TrainsCanComeTrue · 12/12/2016 14:20

Exactly atticus Smile I guess sponge it gently before lying it flat on individual paper towels in a darkened room on its own to recover... Wink

Thanks for replies, just wanted to see if I was being ridiculous and it would fall apart immediately. Or thought maybe there might be a secret bit of water degradable material hidden somewhere in it that it might ruin, hence the "do not wash".

I mean why can't they go with - don't wash it every week but when you get mud and/or wine on it it's ok as long as you use a wool wash?

It's black Fading, so I think I'll be ok. Brushing and soaking both good ideas, thanks.

I would put it on the wool programme and adjust the spin if you can. I always afjust the soin down from 1200 to 800rpm.

franke · 12/12/2016 14:25

And use something like Woolite.

MikeUniformMike · 12/12/2016 14:28

Let the mud dry and brush it off, then send it to the dry cleaners.
If it is completely saturated in mud, rinse it in cool water, then soak it in tepid water with soda crystals dissolved in, then either hand wash or use the wool cycle.
Good luck.

HeyRoly · 12/12/2016 14:45

"Do not wash" is another way of saying "dry clean only", isn't it? As opposed to "cannot be cleaned at all"? Grin

TrainsCanComeTrue · 12/12/2016 15:26

HeyRoly yes I think so, I've seen before that actually "dry clean" means "you should dry clean" and "dry clean only" means "do dry clean only".

But when it's made of wool and acrylics a wool wash should be fine? I'm going to try it.

wowfudge · 12/12/2016 17:33

I wouldn't soak it, but brushing off as much as you can and washing on a cool wool cycle should be fine.

Bamaluz · 12/12/2016 19:34

If it is lined washing it could cause the lining to hang down past the fabric when it dries.
I would brush the dried mud off, and then sponge any marks or send it to be dry cleaned.
