Quick wash ... do you follow instructions and only half fill the machine or do you fill it up like you would a normal wash ?

Ok so I have a new machine and it has quick wash 15 minute and quick wash 60 minute or the alternative normal wash is over two hours ... my question is simple do I just put 3.5 kg (as per manual) in for a quick wash or will I get away with the full 7kg ... I'm thinking for the 60 minute one - don't think I'd trust the 15 minute wash

Split the load and do 2 x 15 minutes. Why overload a new machine?

dementedpixie · 08/12/2016 22:46

It uses less water so may not clean a full load as well as a partial load. I rarely use the quick wash tbh

NannyR · 08/12/2016 22:50

The quick washes won't clean the clothes as effectively, especially if you overload it. They are fine for stuff that's not that dirty or just needs refreshing.
The longer wash will probably be much more water and energy efficient.

Why would anyone ever use 1 15 minute wash? Confused.

I think 60 minutes is pushing it for something that you want to be washed really thoroughly like towels or bedding.

Thank you for your responses ... I guess if I keep on top of my washing the longer wash cycle won't be too bad ... the thing is I've had a broken washing machine for nearly a month - been using friends and family washing machines but have huge back log ... good old domestic and general 🙄 Took them two weeks to look at my broken machine engineer decided motor etc had gone so had to wait a week for part to be then told oh no wait we will give you a new machine but you have to pay the rest of your premiums up front and pay £19.99 for delivery 😠

^This, I almost never use it - I just can't bring myself to do it. Only one exception is if I am desperate for a particular item of clothing AND it is isn't too dirty/or if it is a new item that needs a quick rinse through.

Due to the way washing machines and laundry detergents work now, quick washes just do not provide adequate cleaning or rinsing IMO.

It probably wouldn't be noticed in 1 wash but would say after 10 washes if they were all quick washes, the clothes would start looking dingy quite quickly.

In terms of amounts of laundry, the machine is capable of holding 7kg, so there are no issues there, all that may happen is either 7kg will be washed badly, or the machine will detect it is overloaded and extend the cycle to longer than 15 minutes.

I also never use quick wash, but I'm lucky. My washer takes about 90 minutes on cottons 40 and 1 hour 45 on 60 so it's not too bad. Quick wash is 30 minutes on ours. I only ever use it if food has been spilt and I want to get it in the washer before it dries or if I've bought something new and want to give it a wash

Allofaflumble · 09/12/2016 18:05

I use the quick wash a lot. On clothes that aren't dirty or stained and need freshening. They come out perfectly OK. 28 minutes on mine though I haven't used 14 minute wash.

I'm on my own though and no children's clothes.

rabbit123 · 09/12/2016 18:35

Top tip...if you have anyone in your house with sensitive skin, quick wash is a huge no-no. Most only do 2 rinses which isn't enough to get all the detergent residue out and can trigger a reaction

lljkk · 09/12/2016 19:21

We use quick wash for 99% of our loads. machine says 5 kg but we'd normally just do 2-3 kg. 30 min. vs. 2+ hrs. I also halve the detergent. No brainer.

ICJump · 10/12/2016 03:40

I use quick wash if it's a few bits left at the end of a laundry day. But mainly I use it when I've washed stuff and not had s chance to hang it out

aretheyhavingalaff · 11/12/2016 12:48

I use quick wash for my gym kit but I'm confused that bibbitybobbity says that a 60 minute wash is no good.

That can't be right can it? I always use my 60 minute wash for 40 degrees, 60 degrees and 90 degree washes. Who has time for 2 hour washes? Surely they are unneccessary unless you have REALLY (can't think what) things to wash.

lljkk · 11/12/2016 15:31

Bit like those MNers who insist that everyone else in the world also needs a shower every morning or they go around stinking the world out. Those shower dodgers have loads of coworkers who resent them, they make life horrible for fellow commuters, etc.

Meanwhile, in my parallel universe, plenty of people don't shower first thing every morning & don't have those problems. So it is with "how clean are your clothes really" threads. I'm satisfied our quick washes do the job as long as we keep the loads small, others may need to do things differently.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 11/12/2016 19:12

I find the quick wash useful for freshening things like just used running kit or swimming kit where the sweat/ chlorine will wash off quickly.

I put less in the 30 min wash.

Most washes are the 60 or 2hr cycle depending on how much needs doing. I'll start the day with a shorter cycle to get it in the dryer. It then has no advantage due to drying time as the dryer takes longer.

Use less detergent in shorter washes as there is less rinsing.
