Which washer? Miele or Bosch ?

Washing machines
I'm looking at Miele or Bosch - anyone got a view either way?

Only difference in the ones I've look at is that Bosch has delay start and Miele one doesn't (in my price range).

Any washing machine opinions welcome !

Thanks

I have a Miele washer and I love it. We bought one for our first house in 2003 and it has never needed repair (touches wood frantically...) - it is still in there with a tenant now. We then bought another when we moved to this house in 2009 and have had no problems with it so far. DMum bought the most basic Miele bottom of the range machine when I was 16 (21 years ago) and it too has given faithful service ever since with no repairs - sorry DMum if I have cursed you now..!

I did also have a Miele dryer but it was a piece of crap and broke repeatedly - i switched it for a Bosch, which is brilliant. I think that particular model of dryer was known for having problems with the thermostat but despite tons of internet forums full of people having the same issue, Miele customer service was very very poor and they wouldn't admit that it was a fault with the model.

I don't think you would be disappointed with either brand to be honest. My Miele washer is one of the very basic models and it does everything I want it to.

I have had nothing but issues with miele, as have friends who have spent alot of money on many Miele products. I have removed them all and replaced my diswasher and washing machine with Bosch Ones which are great. I love the fact you can open the washer to put things in you have forgotten, couldn't do that with my miele.
Only good thing for me about the dishwasher was the cutlery tray across the top of it.

To add miele after service is v.v poor too.

I've had Bosch for a few years-
My Bosch WM was one of the huge old ones ( cannot remember if it was an 8kg or 9kg, but looking at the drum size of my new 7kg, I think a 9kg)
It never broke down but in the end it was going to, the bearings and the water pump were really noisy.
It was 10 year old and I did loads of washing.

I couldn't find a new Bosch I liked, they all looked ]plastic' and I couldn't open the fluff filter (on the old one it was a struggle, on the new display ones I couldn't re-fit it)

I got a Miele. Only had it a month, very happy with it, though the cycle seems long I'm sure its because it had a display which the Bosch didn't.

My Bosch DW (bought to replace a Hotpoint) needed a minor repair at only 2 years old.

Bosch kettle didn't fare well (leaked) but we have hard water (I do filter the water) .

Bosch tumble drier handle broke, I did a repair myself. It works still but I'm not sure its worth the hype. Its one of those machines that chooses when your clothes are finished but they aren't 'dry'. Maybe that's what they're programmed to do?
A while ago it kept switching off, showing the light for "Container Full" when it was empty Confused, but Touch wood its over that now.

Oh, and the Miele doesn't 'beep'. Maybe I could select a 'beep' but I prefer it silent Grin

We have a Bosch Exxcel 8 washer and it's a bit crap. Not great at getting clothes clean (think it uses too little water in order to meet the energy/green requirements) and beeps incessantly when finished. Not an improvement over our previous 13 year old bargain basement Hotpoint, except it has a larger drum and a delayed start.

Also it's smart enough not to spin with an unbalanced load but not smart enough to try again at a lower spin speed so I am forever coming back to a wash that thinks it's finished but everything is still stopping wet as it hasn't spun, and I have to set it spinning and rinsing again, at slower speeds until it finally spins.

Funnily enough I was looking at my old receipts and instruction manuals only yesterday so I can see that in March 1998 I paid £1,250 to John Lewis for a Miele washer-dryer. To date and touch wood, despite three house moves everything has been hunky dory.

Can't remember how much it cost, but at the start of 1997 I bought a Bosch washing machine which I used, then gave to my DC and then put in a tenanted property so it's had lots of different users in nudging on 20 years. That's also moved a few times and not had any attention at all so far.

The difference between the two, apart from the dryer is that the body of the Miele looks brand new even today, whereas the enamel has chipped and flaked off the Bosh, not that affects the performance. The Miele is exceptionally heavy. Not that I move it.

By contrast I had to replace a Neff dishwasher because there was an accident with the door and we didn't think it economic to repair. I chose a Miele which ended up having several engineer visits under warranty, but touch wood, that's now about 10 years old. For what it's worth the last engineer from Miele said if he was buying a washing machine he'd buy Miele but dishwashers he'd go for Bosch/Neff/Siemens.

If I could wait and was happy to pay extra for the Miele, I'd go for one of their free and extended guarantee machines.
