How much of the usual stuff do you keep on hand in the house (e.g. Loo rolls, washing up liquid, wash powder etc). Or do you just buy a new one when the old one runs out?

Only ever replace when the old one runs, or is running, out. I don't buy branded though, so no special offers. If I bought only fairy or finish for example, I might buy in advance if they were massively reduced in a promotion.

I normally keep one spare. When that goes into use I add it to my list.

ZoFloMoFo · 04/12/2016 11:52

Always have about 6 spare loo rolls.

Washing powder, washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, I only buy when the current pack or bottle is running low.

I have a load of cleaning sprays, fluids and bleach under the kitchen sink. If it's starting to look empty then I'll buy more of whatever is on offer. I'm not fussy about using particular sprays for particular rooms - so I'll use bathroom spray in the kitchen for example.

I buy when things are on special offer (67 Fairy dishwasher tablets for £6.00 in Poundland recently) but don't stockpile. I have enough so that I can keep everything in two kitchen cupboards, I don't want it all spilling over into the rest of the house. At the moment we've got 3 loo rolls in the bathroom and I'll buy some more when I do my big Sainsbury's shop this afternoon.

I live in London within 5 minutes walk of local shops. There is just no need to have vast stocks of anything in. Its different for my inlaws who live in the country and get cut off if there is snow.

One spare for most things that get used regularly. With less used stuff I aim to replace just before it runs out. London area, again, though so dead easy to replace.

I stockpile from Costco, storing supplies in spare room - buy loo rolls, dishwasher and washing machine and cleaning supplies in bulk when on offer so end up only buying this twice a year or so. Works out cheaper for us and we over last five years since planning/budgeting this way loads easier as don't run out of essentials. Not for everyone but works really well for us.

I tend to buy things on offer so usually 18-24 toilet rolls at time & buy more when at final 3 usually.

Sprays usually have a spare then get another one on that.

We're right by Aldi & savers so cleaning stuff I don't need much of but anything I get at Home bargains or elsewhere I usually have two of.

Kidnapped · 04/12/2016 19:42

We are rural so are at risk of not being able to get to shops if there is snow/ice. Nearest small town is 6 miles.

I tend to buy two of everything like doleritedinosaur, so big bags of dog food, cleaning stuff, washing powder and long-life food like tins. Makes sense to buy double when it is on offer so that it saves you the trip the next time. I don't buy more than two usually though. I often switch brands, buy stuff on offer, don't like the smell of a particular washing powder or whatever anymore, so don't want to buy stuff that I'm not sure we'll use. Also there are new foodstuffs and products coming onto the market constantly, so don't want to be stuck with one old product all the time.

This is the first house that we've had with space to store extra supplies. It makes sense to get some supplies in unless you ever have to chuck out stuff that you haven't used. Or don't like any more.

We've now got enough bottled water, dog food, tins of food, cleaning and laundry stuff to last the winter. About October next year I'll start buying a few extra supplies to last us again. But I won't go overboard.
