Mice, already tried council and Rentokil, now what?

We live in a Victorian terrace. We already had the council in who put poison down. That stopped them for a bit but then they came back.

Spent £450 on Rentokil with three trips, poison and blocked all holes apparently Hmm.

Six months later and the cold weather has brought them back. Saw one leg it across my living room and into the fireplace (which Rentokil said there is no hole inside).

Both companies said it is only one mouse!

We can't get a cat (allergic) and no point blocking air bricks as they can get in through other houses as it's a terrace.

Is there any point getting Rentokil again? We aren't the sort to be handling mouse traps ourselves.

I got the preloaded poison traps from Amazon, I think they were rentokil, little clear plastic boxes with the poison inside, I know it's awful, but it worked, said to wait 48 hours and literally one the next morning and one the day after. Another clearly scurried under the floor boards and died there and the stink was shocking for a day. But what can I say they worked and it cost a few pounds. So far no probs since, and I'm relatively ashamed to say I'd do it again if I found another.

Snap traps are the most humane way of killing them. Please don't use glue traps they are awful.

I had a rat problem! It was pretty bad as they were living and breeding under the decking and getting in the house some way. I had to put all food in high cupboards. Blocked all holes up with a foam expanding spray and got a cat!

I know you can't get a cat but you could try a combination of the above.
