Magic wash balls anyone?

Just stumbled across something on Groupon for 'magic wash balls' essentially balls that you lob in your washing machine and they apparently wash your clothes without the use of detergent. £10.99 for 1000+ washes. So significantly cheaper than powder etc. Has anyone used them and if so do they actually clean clothes?

wash nuts?
useless if so.
cheapest powder much better for your clothes and the washing mashine.

They apparently work better in hot water than cold. I'm allergic to lots of wash brands, so this is perfect. just wondered if it anyone used them or not.

These have been around for donkeys years under various different names and they are utter bollocks. You may as well just wash your clothes in water and save the £10.99 as well!

I have some which are plastic 'balls' with smaller balls inside. There are refills -so I guess the smaller balls are some kind of detergent.

Similar to this balls

I did use them quite a lot when I first got them - and they did clean the clothes. But I wouldn't have used them on heavily soiled items sports kit or teenage boy clothes

I've used Eco eggs for years and they are great

Utter rubbish. Used for a while as dh and Ds had terrible eczema. Did nothing. Like previous poster says may as well wash in just water.

I use Eco balls, they are great. There is no smell of detergent, so clothes don't have the smell we associate with clean. They don't smell dirty or stuffy though.

I don't have messy eaters any more, so don't know how they would cope with bibs, but they handle our washing fine.

Another vote for Eco Eggs here

I've never heard of magic wash balls but i use eco eggs My daughter first got this for me and I was very doubtful but they work brilliantly.Washing very clean and irons well.I must have saved so much not buying liquid or powder and I'm sure they're much better for my washing machine and the environment too.Would highly recommend.

I tried them and thought that the only "magic" part was the way my money had disappeared on something so useless!

littleoctonauts · 04/12/2016 21:13

I used them for about two years. Did wonders for dd's eczema, she's v sensitive to washing powders. Then I read a scientific paper which did controlled trials of different washing methods and found that these things are not significantly better than water alone (but bear in mind that water is a very effective, albeit insufficient at times, cleaner). I switched to Surcare and it's working great for dd.

I miss having to spend hardly any money on detergent tho, and I also miss not having to wash out my washing machine powder dispenser drawerGrin

I bought some years ago from QVC.....what a rip off...whites looked grey and nothing smelt or felt clean.
