Please help me write a list to restock my kitchen cupboards

Need a comprehensive list of dry foodstuffs for me cupboards (I had to throw everything away following a beetle infestation).

I havent cooked any proper meals since, so dont really know what I a missing - but I filled a wheely bin full of it so there must have been a lot there!

I know there was lots of pasta and rice and cereals and flours but what else do I need? Cant afford to replace everything at once, as it will cost a fortune, but need the basics, so any help for my shopping list gratefully received!

I have spent a small fortune buying those plastic lock lock containers... no idea how I shall fit it all in my tiny kitchen tho, but I cant bear the thought of this happening again

Poor you {{{{hugs}}}
I had to do something kinda like this when our house was flooded with a burst pipe over new year last year. It is a PITA.

I hope they don't come back.

Oh - and mustard powder (great in cheese sauces)

Sage & thyme are lovely stuffed in a chicken with lemon before roasting.

Sage is lovely with butternut squash & chicken in a rissoto.

often marinade lamb or beef in olive oil garlic & thyme

Oati · 15/02/2007 18:44

yum

Lullabyloo · 15/02/2007 18:44

tumeric

I'd do it online personally .. then you can sit there and play around with the basket of goods until you work out what you REALLY need

our sainsburys online does free delivery on specified days (tues, weds, thurs) and ocado is always free if spending over £75

losty · 15/02/2007 18:49

thansk twig - I may do that, but I thought I may get some better deals (bogof etc) if I went in to the shop personally

OP posts:
Twiglett · 15/02/2007 18:50

the deals go online as well ..

Oati · 15/02/2007 18:50

fresh thyme - essential in a bouquet garni for stews etc

horseradish steak (use thyme, paprika and yogurt mixed with horseradish as a marinade)

thyme, parsley and lemon stuffing

yum

For herbs and spices it is really worth seeing if you have a local Chinese or Indian supermarket / cash and carry.

I about 4 times a year and it is about 1/5th of the cost of normal supermarkets for herbs and spices.
