Low key storage for toys in conservatory/dining room

Can anyone suggest some decent looking and low key storage for toys which would look ok in a modern conservatory (which we also use as a dining room a few times a week)? Would like white/cream storage (rather than pine) and no primary colours as this would look odd as the room is quite neutral (soft yellow walls, cream sofa, dark wood floor etc)... My DS is 2 and we are expecting another baby in May. He doesn't have a lot of toys but we do need somewhere we can store and divide the Brio set, Duplo, blocks, cars etc. We have some deep baskets at the mo but they're too deep to be useful and everything gets jumbled together. Because the base walls are quite low most of the units with drawers/boxes are too high. I can't make it to IKEA either as we live too far away, so any other suggestions would be great...

personally reckon you need to get a builder or crapenter in to custom make something for your space. doesnt have to be complicated - can just be made of ply or mdf and be like a bench seat where the lid lifts up to chuck toys in. can easily add compartments too if you like. then paint it any colour you like... stick some cushions on top, et voila; a stylish window seat type thing with toys inside.

seriously tho, is not neccessarily more expensive that buying ready made furniture and seeing as you have such specific needs/space limitations...

pmsl @ crapenter!

Know lots of crapenters, not so many carpenters!! Thanks for the advice - we aren't planning to stay here for longer than another 12 mths so would prefer sth easy I can order and which relativey cheap say under £60-70, but will think about getting sth made...

How about this with cream drawers?

this one

It is quite expensive from GLTC but I got one similar to that from Jojomamanbebe a few years ago which was cheaper (but can't find it on their website now...) and Argos have stareted doing a version too.

Pannacotta · 14/02/2007 17:17

That GLTC one is good and pretty low key but poss bit long/wide as we only have around 1 metre of space where the unit can go. Also thought it might be easier to get DS to help put things away if the access is easier/more open...

You don't live in Notts, Leics or Lincs do you? as Ikea are trialling a shop online system in those areas.

Pannacotta · 14/02/2007 17:35

No we are in Norfolk so IKEA not an option at the mo, which is a shame as I think they have got storage down to a fine art. Oh well...

I guess this is too tall? We have some similar to these , and keep all our videos a load of other stuff in them. Because they've got lids, they keep stuff out of sight.

KTeePee · 14/02/2007 18:21

Pannacotta, i think they do lots of versions of that unit, think there is one that is not as long but same height (3 drawers I think)

I just try to limit the amount of toys around by rotating them. Otherwise the floor is always full of them, I have to tidy up the room several times a day and at the end of the day he only plays with one or two. So I have a 30x30x40 cms box from IKEA (and my living room back!)

Pannacotta · 14/02/2007 22:16

Good idea to rotate but I find it hard to remember to do this, also we have v little cupboard/storage space so nowhere to put things which aren't being used. Will have a look through all the suggestions and keep my eyes open too...
