I am, or am supposed to be, currently still in dressing gown though so not a great start.

I plan to chuck out as much stuff as possible this week.

What do people who don't have cars do about large stuff that they need to get rid of though ?? My bin men are very picky and will only take household rubbish.

For example, i broke the lid to my kitchen bin last night and so will be b uying another. How do I get rid of the old one then ???

Hmm yeah thats ok for things that are in good condition, will register later.

What about things that do need chucking though but are big ??

There's a very helpful man with a van round here - actually, I think he works for the council but moonlights with the council van - who, for a small fee, will take the things that the binmen won't take, to the tip. Check notice boards in local shops for ads.

Idon't drive either nutcracker. Is there anyone y ou can ask for you?

Do your council do once a month pick up of stuff like that or do you have to pay for items to be collected??

i need to de clutter my whole house, or i might bomb it and start again

Where you from nutcracker??

nutcracker · 12/02/2007 10:21

I vaguley remember my mum wittering on about some bloke with a van actually, will ask her again.

The council will do a special collection but you have to list each individual item....and i have loads.

I am!!! Once the weather dries up I can finally get my garden sorted (it is full of bulky household broken things that need to go to the dump!) and stop it looking like a chavtastic council dump lol

We sorted the living room over the weekend, rearranged the furniture and had a toy cull!

Upstairs is my biggest problem - so much stuff in the cupboards that I dont know where to start - tried to ebay a lot of it but didnt sell, so looks like some people on freecycle will be getting some bargains!

Fattytwoshoes · 12/02/2007 10:22

oh, annoying. our is £15. an item from the council i think. hence my outside looks like a dump, hey nutty bring it to mine!!

Clearing out here too in preparation for moving house in 3 weeks. To a very open plan house so I can't even shut doors to hide mess!

Did school drop-off and then ended up going for coffee with a couple of friends - but while I was doing that I had my car washed and valeted! Then went to recycling place to get rid of a boot full of papers, bottles etc (no household collection for them here in Budapest).

Now on here of course with a cheese roll and a cuppa!

Have bags of stuff to go to charity and it needs to be labelled so that is next task. Then re-filling my boot with rest of recycling to drop off on way back to school this afternoon. Am also going to clear out the bathroom.

I am!! The entire contents of our little loft (L shaped house so have two lofts) is in our bedroom as we had to have water tank and boiler replaced last week. Great opportunity to sort through some of it and take bags of it to the recycling/tip and charity shop.

However, am still in pj's and we need to be in town by lunchtime for ds's optician appointment, so may not manage to do much today...

nutcracker · 12/02/2007 10:42

I think what i'll have to do is just bag and box it all up and then stick it in the back garden. Then once I know i've finnished i'll find out if there is a man with a van who can collect it all. If not i'll have to save up for a skip I suppose.

On a Saturday morning there is a dustbin wagon down the road and I saw someone taking a mattress to it the other day. Seems to be for all the things you can't put in the wheely bin.

peegeeweegee · 12/02/2007 12:18

nutcracker, if you have a fair bit to get rid off, take a look at those skipbags they sell at places like B&Q. May be cheaper than a man with a van or a proper skip.

Fattytwoshoes · 12/02/2007 12:20

never heard of them before
