that the cement underneath it is all damp, and has the odd woodlouse and centipied living in it.

Not a good sign all is well with the house is it?

Can you see from the outside of the house if a damp course was built?

We do have damp in another area of the house, but not sure about the house having had a damp course. It's pebble dashed so dp thinks that maybe hiding a multitude of sins

You can get the floor chemically treated to make it impervious to damp. Look for 'Dampproofing' in your yellow pages.

The house will be 100 years old next year, and the damp so far (only taken up a part of the floor) is only near the outside wall, not in the middle of the floor.

Going to look in the yellow pages now
