Forgive me, Mumsnet, for I must blaspheme . . . . (Zoflora related)

I am a marketer's dream. After listening to the MN Jury rave about Zoflora, I ordered a bottle of Fresh Linen from Amazon. I opened it in high anticipation of the life changing effect this wonder product would have on my mopped floors.

Oh my good God . . . . . the SMELL!!!!!!!!!!

Even DH, the mildest mannered and least bothered bloke about anything, wandered out of the lounge to find out what the feck was stinking the house out.

I seem to be the only person that gets a headache from Zoflora. Very quickly. I also feel ill if I am anywhere near reed air fresheners or Febreze poison. I am suspicious about the ingredients being unhealthy.

WelshMoth · 03/11/2016 05:03

previously I'm exactly the same. I've bought a load of different air freshness over the years and they all affect me. I always resort to the old faithful - burning essential oils. It's the only thing my head can tolerate.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 03/11/2016 06:42

I use bicarb for sick on carpets - removes all traces of sick smell without replacing it with artificial fragrance.

Getnakedorgohome · 03/11/2016 06:47

How do you use it in the washing machine? Is it instead of detergent or as well or just to clean the machine? I love the smells of most of them, the linen one is a bit overpowering though Smile

NannyR · 03/11/2016 06:53

I agree, I thought the fresh linen one smelt like horrible cheap aftershave. I threw it away. But I quite like the springtime one and the honeysuckle one reminds me of what my grans house used to smell like. I just got a Christmassy cranberry and orange one which is nice too.

WordGetsAround · 03/11/2016 06:57

I cannot compute what you are saying. If I have fewer than 3 full bottles of fresh linen in the cupboard I start to get a little nervy.

dementedpixie · 03/11/2016 07:44

For the washing machine: use your normal detergent and fabric softener. Add 1-2 capfuls of zoflora in with the softener. I use it for smelly gym/football kit, etc

waitingforgodot · 03/11/2016 07:55

I have the rose one at the minute. It's lovely

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 03/11/2016 08:08

1-2 capfuls with the FC . I put a few drops in with the detergent so it gets rinsed away and it is still overwhelming.

DubiousCredentials · 03/11/2016 08:16

Blimey 1-2 capfuls would make my eyes water Shock I put a scant capful in the washing powder section and it still smells on the clothes despite being rinsed away.

Ankleswingers · 03/11/2016 08:20

I luffs Zoflora. My Mum, on the other hand, hates the stuff.

Yesterday, she walked into my house and immediately starting making all sorts of faces and moaned that my house smelt like Turkey Fat Shock

I had used to Winter Morning....

I just don't get why not everyone feels the love for it!

BlurtonOnKites4eva · 03/11/2016 08:26

I love cleaning products and I love smelly stuff but I can't stand zoflora it gives me a headache and flares my asthma up.

I first tried bouquet because I normally like flowery shit and bloody hell it was horrendous and the smell wouldn't leave for days, if actually say it ruined my flat for a week.

previously1474907171 · 03/11/2016 22:58

WelshMoth I also use essential oils or good quality candles. I now check ingredients on anything with fragrance because many of them are irritants, Zofora contains limonene.

ifancyagreencard · 04/11/2016 09:34

Yup, as well as the smell it sort of "caught" the back of my throat. Well, I can't say I didn't try it ! Back to Saviour of the Universe for me, I think. Thanks for the responses, glad I'm not the one and only Heathen Grin

OP posts:
WelshMoth · 05/11/2016 07:28

I wonder if us zoflora heathens can smell the limonene? To me, whilst I can detect all the different fragrances of zoflora, I can overwhelmingly smell something that's identical in all of them. I've truly tried to love this stuff - I have bought the citrus, rose, linen, floral, twilight and a few more, but there's something in it that hurts my head and catches my throat. I'm the same with all air freshener stuff and surface cleaners too.

One of the only things a I like is the Method grapefruit and it's bloody 4 quid a bottle

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 05/11/2016 07:31

Yes, Method are much better, I love the Almond floor cleaner.

WelshMoth · 05/11/2016 11:01

Oooohhhh yes, I love the Almond floor cleaner too.

Bloody expensive stuff though!

previously1474907171 · 05/11/2016 23:20

I like Greenscents as a make, it doesn't give me a headache.

I am not sure about all the ingredients of the various Zoflora smells as I haven't checked every one, however many things also contain geraniol which is another allergen.

If there is still a smell left in fabric after washing it without any added smells then whatever was used prior to that unperfumed wash was, to me, not a good thing to be using.

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 06/11/2016 22:00

My sense of smell is very poor, I rely on my lot telling me if they smell something icky.

After using Winter Morning to clean my floors & wipe down surfaces my dd (17) came home and asked what that smell was? ...... cos the house smells lovely!!!

Normally I use white vinegar, I reckon WM Zoflora is a nasal step up Blush

EnidButton · 07/11/2016 03:51

It's fucking horrendous stuff.

I'm fascinated by the amount of love it gets on MN. I want to join in and like it but it makes me heave.

I do have a very sensitive sense of smell but still.

Method grapefruit spray is as strong as I'll go with cleaning products. That and lemon scented floor wipes. Nice and subtle.

mikeyssister · 10/11/2016 17:17

Love the linen smell. DD and DS seem to have hormones coming out of every pore of their body at the moment and the smell was lingering even after they were washed - probably the material and the fact they have to be washed at 30.

They smell really clean with a few drops of linen in with the FC.

tshirtsuntan · 10/11/2016 17:24

I like method stuff, the almond smelling furniture polish smells like vidal sassoon shampoo used to smell. Tesco do 3 for 2 on method quite often.

mikeyssister · 10/11/2016 17:51

I mean the clothes they're wearing have to be washed with Linen

BroomstickOfLove · 10/11/2016 18:02

Twice I have succumbed to Mumsnet Zoflora frenzy, and both times I've regretted it. Method all the way for me.

Eolian · 10/11/2016 18:05

I love the linen one, but they are all VERY concentrated, so they smell very powerful neat. You need to dilute them a lot.
