What do you think would be a good list of daily to do jobs that you do come what may that kept your house and family running?

I want a daily list that if I make sure I do every day things stay pretty much organised, clean, food in the fridge, kids clean, homeworked etc

This sounds very obvious Im sure but would like to hear your ideas.

Do plan over a week of what you are going to do each day, so not all the tasks overwhelm you on one day, like i usually wash clothes mon and thurs, and hoover tues and weekend and bathrooms wednesday , online shop tuesday at work etc etc

I worked out a nice routine but it has all gone pear shaped now. Basically involved keeping ontop of kitchen every day, then blitzing a different room each day, then a day for sorting out paperwork/bills/budgetting etc every week. DS has a bath each night as he loves it, and it gives him a bit of father son time and me a few minutes break. I also do at least one load of washing a day but hang things up and give them good shake as hate ironing and only do absolute minimum. Not sure about homework yet as DS only 8 months, but perhaps try and have half hour each day for homework/spellings or if they have none then just sharing a book together? (Not sure how old your LOs are!)

Make the bed
rinse the bath
empty bins
washing up/ dishwasher
wipe sides down
tidy as you go, never leave a room empty handed
pick up toys
put clothes away
make meals
iron what you want to wear for that day (none of this standing round for 3 hours doing it)
hoover (every other day at least)
keep a piece of paper attached to the fridge so you can write things down that you run out of or need
bath children/ make sure they get in the bath
set a time for homework to be done eg. start homework at 4pm make sure it is finished by 4.30 (set an alarm on your phone if they usually drag it out)
delegate - i don't mind my children bringing toys down and playing with what they like as long as they take it back up at bedtime or tidy away after themselves.
Tidy up time in this house is usually 4.50, it keeps the children busy while i dish dinner and they are helping.

I have 2 wipe boards... I put on all the things I need to do for the week on one and then the other thing has daily things ie today DS had rugby and I had a list of all the things he needed to take... I need to send a birthday card so thats on there...

the first one is like the calender but has more info....

as for cleaning... that gets done if and when

my list is much shorter than lovemygirls. Hoovering is once/twice week at most. Upstairs bins emptied once a week and kitchen bin as required.

So my everyday list is bascially:
cook/get something out of freezer to eat
run/empty dishwasher (DH normally does this)
do a load of washing
hang washing up to dry
make beds
tidy up a bit
check DS's uniform when he gets home from school, sponge trousers if poss or make sure he has some clean ones
DS's reading book
DS's spellings
If I am working check with DD what she will wear including clips and bobbles the night before

Other things are done on set days

DarrellRivers · 11/02/2007 14:25

Relieved that 1-2 times week hoovering is acceptable, my house is very clean on that level hoovering. Sometimes need a spot clean but not daily.

sparkymummy · 11/02/2007 14:33

1-2 a week hovering is what happens here too... I say its because DS cries when he hears the hoover, so I have to hold him while I hoover and he's getting a heavy lump... but not sure how long that excuse will wash for!!!!

Some good ideas posted here

We have a shower over the bath, so when I shower I always clean around quickly before getting out, put any shampoo bottles/shower gel etc back in their places on the hanging rack, and basically do a quick clean round whilst I am there. This only takes a maximum of two mins, but I find it helps to keep it looking nice. That makes me feel good and I don't dread any unexpected visitor needing to use it

Daily list -

Load of laundry on
Dishwasher / washing-up / wipe kitchen
Laundry out to dry
Laundry put away
Cook what it says on the meal planner
Tidy up time (after tea here, followed by music & dancing in the newly clear living room)
Check dd has clean uniform for tomorrow

And
Mon - Shopping
Tues - Bathrooms
Wed - Hoovering
Thu - Kitchen
Fri - Dusting/cleaning that didn't get covered by the other days

I don't make beds and I don't iron.
I do a bit of extra emergency bathroom/loo cleaning while the kids are in the bath

Every few weeks dh & I do a joint manic blitz at the weekend (to allow for the fact that I don't actually do my daily list).

Life is too short for housework.

Yes - definitely a good idea to combine cleaning with other things where possible - we have one of those squeegee things to clean the shower screen and tiles round the bath with, after showering, and I've also just bought one of these that does a fab job on the screen, tiles and bath and sink without chemicals, and really quickly.

Before work-
Clean the loo when I get up
Wipe the shower down after using it
Take rubbish, dirty mugs etc downstairs in washbasket
Put a wash on
Empty dishwasher/put away
Papers in recycling
Take something out of freezer to cook
After work -
Washing to dryer
Supervise piano/homework
Cook, clean up, load dishwasher
Shake out/fold drying (hardly ever iron)
Wipe down tops
Put clean clothes away/clean bathroom while dd in bath
Find her stuff for the morning

That's the every day stuff, rest gets fitted in when possible
