Burnt pan

Is there a way (other than elbow grease and a Brillo pad) to get burnt apple off the bottom of a milk pan?

I've tried oven cleaner (which didn't touch it). Is there anything that will soften / lift it?

Biological washing powder with hot water. Lifts the burnt bits off and makes it as good as new. My mum swears by this. Smile

Spindelina · 30/10/2016 15:32

Worth buying bio washing powder for?

Washing soda would work, or bicarbonate of soda would help a bit.

PhilMckrakin · 30/10/2016 15:36

I would say yes if it saves the pan! I've never tried it myself but like I said my mum swears by it she heats up the water with powder in on the hob for 5 minutes and says you can just wipe the burnt bits off.

ReedBunting · 30/10/2016 15:37

bio washing powder and leave overnight to soak. or a dishwasher tablet / powder should work.

Spindelina · 30/10/2016 15:43

I've just given it a go with a dishwasher tablet. It's not doing anything, but I'm going to leave the tablet to turn into a paste to leave overnight and see if it helps.

YY to bio washing powder. Simmer some in water in the past for half and hour.

SendARavenToRiverRun · 30/10/2016 16:03

A good slug of salt and simmer the pan.. Keep stirring and it should come clean. Vinegar also works, so I'm told but I always go for salt.

Darwinisafish · 30/10/2016 16:12

Boil rhubarb in it. Genuinely works.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 30/10/2016 16:13

Boil coke in the pan. It works.

dementedpixie · 30/10/2016 16:18

Astonish paste and a scourer normally works

Simmer some very salty water

Danglyweed · 30/10/2016 16:49

I always just use non bio powder, it still brings the pans and trays up beautifully

Spindelina · 30/10/2016 20:08

Progress.

This is after simmering a dishwasher tablet for about half an hour, then another go with a Brillo pad. Going to dissolve another tablet and leave it overnight.

If it's not aluminum or non-stick then I'd put soda crystals in, add boiling water, boil until the water discolours then turn the heat off and leave it for a bit.

I clean pans I've used to make popcorn this way and it works brilliantly. You've done well with the dishwasher tab though!

Spindelina · 30/10/2016 20:40

Rooting through my cupboard reveals that other things that I own that have featured on this thread are soda crystals, non bio washing powder, vinegar, salt, and bicarb. I shall use these in turn. Plus barkeepers friend. And ammonia! Which I think I'll leave for now. No idea why I own ammonia.

Tomato ketchup coated on and left and then rubbed off should work or lots of vinegar.

Spindelina · 31/10/2016 21:16

Ketchup is another thing I own!
