Cordless vacuum cleaner

I have some overtime money due to me this month and I've decided to treat myself to a cordless vacuum cleaner (I know, I know...I'm so rock n roll!) I've been desperate for one for so long.

I'd rather not pay £300ish for a Dyson or a Gtech one unless it's really really going to be worth it. I don't have any pets (just a toddler!)

So wise people of mumsnet. What one would you recommend?

I love my cordless Dyson (Animal) & barely ever get the proper vac out now. We have lots of stairs & the Dyson is brilliant. I can't do the whole house in one go - it needs recharging after a couple of rooms - but I'm don't like to vacuum for very long anyway. It's a post-teatime godsend. In fact nothing has helped me with my slovenly housekeeping more than my cordless Dyson. I also have a Roomba & wouldn't replace it if it broke. I would cry & rush straight out for a new cordless Dyson if that broke.

Following this thread. I'm very keen on buying one too

Dyson cordless V6- it's amazing. I have it mounted to the wall in my understairs cupboard and hard-wired to the mains so it charges as soon as I put it back. I do a floor at a time (3 storey house) and love it!

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Looks like Dyson is the winner so far! I might need to work a bit more overtime...

One thing I forgot to mention is that it needs to be good on hard floors. We only have carpet in the bedrooms.

I bought one a few months back. I love it. I mounted it in the hallway cupboard and it's attached to mains, so charging every time I put it back. Absolutely fantastic for a quick blast after dinner etc.
I would replace mine like for like if it broke.

Bosch Athlet here. It was £150. Its really really good. Light, picks up loads. Its been great.

We had ( still have) a Dyson animal but it's been replaced as my upstairs vacuum by a Bosch Athlet ,which is a way better machine - the animal is now in the kitchen which it copes with better than a whole floor .

I'm fascinated by the concept of "upstairs vacuums". Is this how the other half lives?

My Gtech is awesome- compare how long the charge lasts for each as will make a difference to how annoying it is to use!

Love my Bosch athlet. I sold my dyson cordless one as soon as I got it.

We have mostly wood plus some rugs and it works well on both. The main benefit over my previous dyson is that you don't have to keep your finger on the button the whole time. It isn't as good on stairs to be fair but our stairs are wood so I just wipe them with a cloth.

Dyson sell their refurbished stock through ebay the V6 cordless is currently £152 which is quite a lot cheaper than anywhere else. Might be worth a look stores.ebay.co.uk/Dyson-Outlet

I have the upright GTech and it is great on all flat surfaces but the head is too big for stairs. I bought the handheld version and it was rubbish, no suction and really fiddly attachments so that got sent back. I am now looking for something lightweight with a small head for stairs. I might have a look at the Athlet. I cannot bring myself to pay Dyson prices - and they are really heavy.

dyson v8 absolute ! it's amazing - I test drove the gtech (upright and handheld) and it was no where near in comparison.

Is the dyson any good for picking up food ie. Spaghetti? I'm thinking of getting the v6? Thanks

i've found the v8 picks up everything, i think the suction is also good on the v6.

i'm happy with the V6. I bought it reconditioned with 1 year warranty, from Dyson on ebay. I paid £200 for the absolute version with all the different attachments.
