Is there a way to salvage them or do I need to buy new ones (again!)?

Watching too

I read a tip and saw some pictures from a cooking group I'm part of - apparently ammonia left on for a couple of days makes them as new again!

StrawberrytallCake · 25/09/2016 08:35

Even better for a week if you can live without them for that long. Ammonia can be bought from Robert Dyas.

Get some Pyrex ones. They last forever and go in the dishwasher

ShyFox · 25/09/2016 08:56

tubby do you mean the non stick pyrex ones like these

Whilst lookin for that I also discovered they do glass ones! But I'm thinking maybe food will take longer to cook and perhaps not be as crispy with glass.

I'm watching too - are we talking about metal ones?
Tip - ammonia is free and readily available in all households. ...

Tubbyinthehottub · 25/09/2016 09:04

ShyFox, I meant glass ones

wobblywonderwoman · 25/09/2016 09:05

I use brillo pads but that's on the stainless steel types.

StrawberrytallCake · 25/09/2016 09:33

Jenesuis are you suggesting OP does a wee on her baking trays? Shock

bingohandjob · 25/09/2016 22:03

Best baking trays are Silverwood - properly conduct the heat, don't buckle but I'd suggest using with baking/parchment (massive roll from costco lasted me years) and they can't go in dishwasher. If you do have to go the replacement route, worth considering.

JustGettingStarted · 25/09/2016 22:06

I used to try and get metal baking trays like new. Oven cleaner can be useful.

But really, I stopped bothering. I consider the brown stuff to be similar to the seasoning on a cast iron pan. It doesn't affect the flavour of things I bake on them.

trinity0097 · 26/09/2016 20:31

I only buy cheap ones and replace when they get too bad!

user1474922142 · 26/09/2016 21:48

if you want to give your baking trays a good clean then i would recommend using this oven cleaning set it cuts through grease and grime and will make your baking trays look like new.

cheapandcheerful · 27/09/2016 11:05

I haven't tried it but I want to say scrub with bicarb of soda and wire wool?

PinkSwimGoggles · 27/09/2016 11:08

are they stainless steel or enamel?
then I would place it on the hob. half fill with water and add a scoop ob bio washing powder.
bring to boil. switch off and scrub once cool. most stuff should come off.
rinse well.
