I'm thinking of buying a steam cleaner

We are moving to a brand new house which has a large family room. This and the hallway will have a ceramic tiled floor. I've already invested in a hand held Dyson and think I would like to add to my cleaning collection a steam cleaner that is a mop and a hand held cleaner so I can use this in the bathrooms. I've been looking a the Morphy Richards one which was discussed on MN some time ago., everyone loved it but the reviews on Amazon are not consistently good. Are they as good as they say they are? Can you really clean your oven with one? Any tips/advice appreciated.

Mine gets used as a wall paper stripper. It has an attachment for that.

I have a cord free Dyson which is brilliant but I don't have carpets or rugs but on wooden floors it's great

Yep Dyson is fantastic, I have the animal one.

Don't bother.

I got one thinking it would be great too, it's only good for getting into the cracks of the highchair. That's all I ever use it for.

I had visions of a gleaming bathroom and kitchen/oven. No. I could have just breathed all over my bathroom and got the same results.

They just pushed the dirt into the corners of my kitchen floor and left it all wetConfused

I have a Morphy Richards one and it just pushes the dirt around. I get better results by getting down on my knees with a microfibre cloth.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 20/09/2016 20:47

Yep, my Vax one did that too.

ProseccoBitch · 21/09/2016 13:06

I've had two Vax floor ones and they're rubbish. I would love an X5, I sit and look longingly at the advert.

I was very enthusiastic about mine for a bit. Then I wiped the floor with a very, very white cloth and was horrified. It was black! I don't think you can beat a scrubbing brush and a cloth, I'm afraid.

What I do recommend is my Leifheit mop. OK, it's not steamy, but it's got a microfibre rewashable pad that attaches on the end and you can get it around corners really easily. It's also light and you don't have to wait for it to warm up. For a daily wipe around, it's SO quick.

hollyisalovelyname · 21/09/2016 18:48

Leifheit products are very good.

shovetheholly · 22/09/2016 08:12

Hey hollyisalovelyname how are you doing?!

And yes, yes they are very good. I have battered the microfiber pads every week in the washing machine for 2 years and they still look good as new.

YokoUhOh · 22/09/2016 08:14

Our VAX steam mop worked the grand total of ONCE and now doesn't boil the water. I presume I need to send it back to Amazon?

I've seen your posts and laughed at your name.
Should I be worried ?

OCSockOrphanage · 22/09/2016 12:28

I liked my Leifheit mop, but suddenly the microfibre head won't click into place and stay put, at all. Any ideas? I haven't even had it a year...

OCSockOrphanage · 22/09/2016 12:29

And the retailer has been very unhelpful. She put it back on, but it will not stay put through the spin bucket.

Ditsy4 · 24/09/2016 10:55

I paid quite a lot of money for mine and because it is bigger and hard to store( not enough room, no under stairs cupboard) I don't use it enough. It is good but the mop type ones came out after and I think one of those would be more useful. It doesn't make the grout look cleaner but at least you know it is sterilised. The tiles look cleaner.

hollyisalovelyname · 24/09/2016 14:39

What's the cheapest ( good one) available please?
