What vacuum have you got and do you recommend it?

I had an upright Dyson for years and loved it but it died during our poorer years and I replaced it with a Hetty which has lasted for 7 years and has a lovely smiley face but is actually a pain in the arse to use. It doesn't seem to be able to be pulled at all without falling over and kills my back to use.

I was about to buy a basic Dyson but have been reading some of the reviews in Amazon and they aren't brilliant! I expected much more 4/5 stars for £300!!

Can anyone tell me what they have and if they like/hate it?!

I have pets but they aren't really moulty so that's not a huge issue. We have wooden floors, Lino and carpet and 2 flights of stairs so I don't want it to be too heavy!

I have the smaller Dyson ball one, I know a lot of people don't like it but I would have another in a heartbeat. It's light, nippy and easy to empty and quite small. I have heard good stuff about the Dyson cordless though, and have to agree constantly plugging and unplugging is a PIA.

Miele junior C1

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00YCW1UBU/ref=dp_ob_neva_mobile

It's good but the cord's a bit short & the tubes aren't telescopic. If I were buying another I'd go up a grade.

It's very good on stairs - small enough to sit on a step so as long as there's a socket near enough you can do the whole lot safely in one go.

Sucks like mad even when the bag's nearly full, & although they're expensive they hold masses & let no dust out. I tried some cheap imitation bags once & they were awful.

2 meile cylinders, one for upstairs and one for downstairs and a Dyson cordless for stairs, cat bed and quick whip rounds.

rollonthesummer · 31/07/2016 16:02

Are cordless vacuums just the hand held type?

Dyson cordless V6 Animal.

I love it like a child. Grin So lovely to use, and picks up everything.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 31/07/2016 16:04

Mine is both, you can have it as hand held or use the wand.

KoalaDownUnder · 31/07/2016 16:07

No, cordless means they are a stick vacuum that charges at a charging station, so you can use them without trailing a cord around.

The usually also convert to a hand-held by detaching the full-length stick and clipping on a shorter attachment.

Upright miele. Old, heavy, but works brilliantly. Never had a blocked tube.

rollonthesummer · 31/07/2016 20:38

Interesting! How long do they vacuum for after being charged?!

The dyson doesn't last very long , I think about 10/12 minutes , the Bosch does about 20 so ample .

This has some good reviews-I wonder if this is what I need?!

I have a HenryExtra, I'm very impressed with it.

OutOfTime · 31/07/2016 22:26

I love my Henry he is a beast. Had a next to new dyson given to me and swapped back to Henry after a week and never looked back!

becciandbump · 31/07/2016 22:50

I have a dyson (pull along not upright) it's quite small so easy to store. One before that was an upright by Hoover which wasn't as good x

cressetmama · 01/08/2016 20:21

Miele Cat and Dog vacuum... seven (or more) years old and going strong. Don't buy cheap bags, even if they pretend to be dupes. They don't work, aren't, and will not work. HTH.

lauracobden · 02/08/2016 17:13

I gotta recommend a VonHaus upright vacuum cleaner Brought mine for 20 quid and I'll tell you what it gives my old Dyson hoover a run for it's money even though it's almost double the price.

ChishandFips33 · 03/08/2016 00:37

Henry - lived through builder dust!
Roomba - fab
Corded stick Hoover that changes to a hand held (still corded) - not so great in this house where plug sockets are few and far between

IneedAdinosaurNickname · 03/08/2016 00:54

I love my Hetty. She never falls over although did get 'stuck' when I tried to pull her past the sofa the other week. The dc killed themselves laughing as they told her off. They've even been known to tell people she's their sister Grin and argue over whos going to 'feed' her!

ChishandFips33 · 03/08/2016 17:39

I say Henry needs his nappy changing when his bag needs emptying - it's so sad my life has come to this

The robot Hoover has a name now too!

bimbobaggins · 04/08/2016 19:58

I have a bad Mach air reach. It's the best vacuum cleaner I've ever had. The suction is amazing and it has an extra long hose so you can reach the top of the stairs from the bottom. Currently half price in Argos and a 6 year guarantee.

bimbobaggins · 04/08/2016 19:59

Vas, not bad. Autocorrect

rollonthesummer · 04/08/2016 20:07

Vax?

OP posts:
foursillybeans · 04/08/2016 20:11

Shark. Absolutely 100%. Had two Dysons. Thought I would never change brand. Dyson had bad negative reviews and way too expensive. The Shark is fantastic and cheap. Only downside is it falls over a lot but that's no big deal.

windygales · 04/08/2016 20:12

Henry!! And we don't use bags

bimbobaggins · 04/08/2016 20:21

Sorry roll meant vax!
