Bought a new light grey DFS sofa with no protection. Help please

Good morning all,

I am new to the forum so I hope I'm posting in the correct section.

I've just purchased a new DFS sofa and think I have been a bit silly as I did not purchase the protection services that they offer. Now I have two children aged 2 & 4. So I think I may have made the wrong call. Got stressed at DFS when purchasing and the protection for the sofa was going to cost £300 on top of my already £2500 sofa.

So I suppose the question is. Can anyone recommend something or somehow to help prevent stains on the sofa. I thought about buying a few cans on scotch guard but heard that it's been banned (not sure if this is true).

Any help would be appreciated.

Scotch guard is no more, but was useless, it did not prevent stains, think you just have to chuck a couple of throws over and teach kids respect furniture, no eating and drinking on there. Am just about to make a plea regarding my sofas, honestly, when you have small kids pointless getting good furniture UNLESS it has washable covers. sorry, Must be a fabulous soaf, as DFS is very reasonable price?

I agre with the above, use some throws and perhaps look into the protection of DFS will offer it now or perhaps find s local upholster that can advise you on how best to protect it.

It's a modula sofa so can build it how you like it. Every sofa I looked at didn't fit how I wanted it too. Spent four weeks looking for something and then realised you could build your own and the best thing about it is when it comes to Christmas I just remove a chair push the rest together and then there is space for a Christmas tree. Just wish I hadn't got so stressed with the kids when trying to buy the sofa would have made a better decision.

Yes they still sell SG just wonder if it's worth a purchase of that.

How about some protected sofa covers? Am not sure how comfortable you would be though with having that over your sofa but it will definitely protect it that's for sure!

I bought scotchgard spray from Amazon only last month? Has it been banned since?

It is still on sale but has been banned in the UK that's what I have read but not sure if that is true. Thank you for your posts.

Managed to get the company that could have protected the sofa before it was delivered to come out and protect it once it was in my living room. Also got the 5 year protection guarantee that DFS offer. Managed to save nearly £180 compared to what DFS were charging for the 5 year protection guarantee.

Guardsman www.guardsman.co.uk is the protection that furniture companies use maybe you can buy a policy retrospectively from their website?

That's who I managed to get out and protect my sofa. And saved money. So pleased. Can relax a little now.

I have 2 DFS sofas & emboldened by MN tips I tried washing the covers in washing machine using the wool washing cycle this week. Both sets turned out perfectly!

• Use wool cycle & don't tumble dry. - Wash all covers (even if some don't need it) in case of fade.
• Replace covers on cushions whilst damp (apparently they can shrink when they dry).

Both sofas look like new. HTH
