Quilt cleaning if it won't fit in washing machine

We have 3 double quilts
They need washing but we can't afford to dry clean them all (and no where local that does dry cleaning anyway)
Is stomping on them in the bath a reasonable method? Smile
Using hand wash?

With regards to detergent, I think if it's down/feathers, it's best to use a wool-safe detergent. If it's synthetic, you can use any detergent (liquid is prob better than powder to avoid any being left behind). The label will tell you what it's made of.

Definitely search out your local launderette, our king size feather quilt cost about £10. Dropped it off one day and picked it up the next.

How often should we wash our duvets? Is an annual wash when the weather is nice enough?

AnnieOnnieMouse · 24/07/2016 21:45

I buy cheap ones from Aldi, and fling them after a couple of years - cheaper than washing them. People always wanting old duvets for dog bedding are happy to take them.
I do wash my summer ones, tho, as they are thin enough to get in the machine and line dry.

We get our feather duvet dry cleaned every 6 months. I had no idea they aren't supposed to be dry cleaned.

Should I really be taking it to the laundrette instead? I thought we couldn't because it's feather not synthetic.

Cool delicate wash in the giant machine at the laundrette, with a non-bio liquid, so no undissolved soap.

Most laundrettes seem to have softened water, which is great.

Don't dry clean, but launder and if you can't do, take to a laundrette or a cleaner's with an industrial washing machine. Worth it if you have a good quality duvet.
