only had it for about 16 months but motor has gone and will cost £229 to mend

is it worth it? they are pricing up some new ones for me but will it just go again in another 16 months?

I know with a washer I'd just buy another one cos I flog those to death so know they have Worked Hard and Are Now Dead but haven't had a dishwasher before

16 months

I washed up for 20 bloody years before that and I don't need a new motor (though dh might disagree )

get a new one!
they are now made to be replaced not repaired

Cappuccino · 23/01/2007 16:46

do they usually fall over after 16 months tho? Do I have to budget to get a new one every year?

if I get a new one I have to pay half the call-out charge

£27 for a fat man to come and listen to it making a noise for two minutes and then going home

this exact same thing just happened to us- ours broke down just before New Year when we had loads of friends coming! It was the pump and would've cost similar. I sourced a new Bosch one (slimline- model above the Bosch Clasixx) for £250 on internet.

misdee · 23/01/2007 16:49

no, you get domestic and general cover for your next one. if its too expensive to repair they will replace it for you.

i took out cover for a washing machine with them. they repaired it twice, then last year they wrote it off (3 year old machine). and replaced it with a similar spec machine that actually cost £200 more than the original washing machine.

New Bosch £250 with 2-yr warranty.

My dead-basic Bosch is about 10 years old and has had to be fixed just once, when the wires that run from the door to the motor (and get bent and crushed) shorted out. They are really good, Cap.

What make is it? We have a very basic Bosch too and it is great.
Did you know that you could take this up with the shop you bought it from, but not the manufacturer? There is a law that means things sold have to be fit for purpose. A dishwasher breaking after 16 months is not fit for purpose. I think the law expects electricals to last 3 years??? Might be longer.
I think Domestic and General is expensive, would rather save that money towards new machine or repairs myself, but Misdee did quite well.
I will try and find out more about this law, I can't remember where I read it now though.

skyler cover was about £80 for 5 year cover on a £200 machine it was a lot, i took it out as i use my washing machine a lot (3 dd's + dh with eczema). was worth it in the end. have also covered the new one they provided from when the manufacter warrenty comes out, and it was mroe this time.

Skyler · 23/01/2007 17:07

Hmm, odd place to find it but look here

Skyler · 23/01/2007 17:09

Gosh Misdee, £80 for 5 years is a bargain!! I can see why you got it now. My quotes have all been nearly £200 for 3 years etc.

misdee · 23/01/2007 17:12

i think it depends on the make of the machine. mine was cheap servis.

Skyler · 23/01/2007 17:14

A bit more here
Could be difficult but I think you have a case. Sixteen months is pathetic.
