Some questions:

Any of you have a splashback instead of tiles? Is it worth the extra money? Easy to fit?

What about an integrated fridge or dishwasher - would you recommend it?

TIA

be careful on integrated appliances .. something went wrong with Dsis integrated oven, then her integrated microwave (just out of warranty) .. and it cost her £160 to fix them .. EACH

Cod - what is so great about an integrated microwave? - am looking at new kitchens and had discounted one as thought it would be a nightmare to replace if it went wrong.

Oops forgot to say we had a semi-integrated dw came with the house. But when it went wrong the week before last xmas (imagine the panic) it was impossible to get a new one in less than 3 weeks so we ended up changing to a fully integrated which we picked up at local currys and dh cunningly fashioned a spare draw front to cover up the missing bit! We also have integ fridge freezer which is rubbish the shelves in the fridge are too high for me to reach properly and its just not big enough. We are upgrading to american style with new kitched although have been warned that the freezer side of them is pathetically small.

I am in the process of designing a new kitchen and have bought loads of magazines - not one illustrated kitchen has tiles, which leads me to believe that they are totally passe!

We are definitely goign for integrated microwave (not because Cod suggested it btw!) - microwaves on the worktop take up loads of space and it will be good to have at eye level.

we have a glass splashback which is opaque. It is great and despite my fears, it has yet to need cleaning-totally smudge free.

lucykate · 23/01/2007 14:00

we are having glass spalshback behind the cooker, upstand around where the worktop and sink are.

fridge/freezer is freestanding. integrated appliances are more expensive to buy/repair/replace.

We have integrated everything the dishwasher is great and easy to get out if it breaks down - the fridge and freezer on the other hand are too small I would have a huge free standing one if we had our kitchen done again!!

We have tiles though - never thought about splash backs!!

Just moved into a house with an integrated fridge/freezer & dishwasher.

Found fridge/freezer a bit small, but we have an extra one in the garage. The good bit about it though is that DS can't get into it (he likes to open other people's freezers 'cos that's where the ice cream is).

We're going to re-do the kitchen at some stage, and don't know whether we will bother getting integrated appliances again.

Well, we've done it. Went for integrated in the end as it looks so much nicer, bt will probably spend the next year or so with my fingers crossed!

And went for stainless steel splash back for cooker, and stone tiles for the rest of it.
