How to get smoke smell out of a new used car?

Hi, I've looked on the web and so far we've tried a bowl of cotton wool soaked in vinegar sat in the car over night (several nights). It hasn't made a huge difference. There's lots of other ideas on google but the smell is really making me feel ill, so I thought I'd ask if you have tried and tested a fix?

Has anyone managed to successfully get the smell out of their car?

TIA

Have you tried any of these ?
I know someone who crumbled a 'Lush' bath bar in the ashtray (but don't know how effective it was)

Tubs of bicarbonate of soda??

What kind of smell is it?

squirt fabric with fabreeze

Thanks for the suggestions. I think the smell is beyond air fresheners, it's really strong in the seat fabric, ceiling and boot. I have wiped down all of the smooth/plastic surfaces and windows so far. Wanted to steam clean the seats but not sure if I should apply something before hand or not, eg. febreeze or sodium bicarb. Does febreeze really work? Do you know if it discolours? (Sodium bicarb on our carpets to get 'wee' smells out has discoloured it in patches, so I don't really want to use on the car fabric if poss, but I know how effective it is)

We bought a car like this once. God knows how anyone could have used it before. We had to get it professionally valeted twice. DH bought it alone. I wouldnt have got it in the first place.
