What do you sleep under when it's hot?

My duvet's too warm, it's 10 tog. I don't really like summer duvets, as they tend to be all loose in the duvet cover, slipping around and bunching up. I thought maybe a cotton blanket would be better (obviously on its own without a cover), but would have to be soft and obviously washable.

Any suggestions/recommendations?

I live in a very multicultural area and there are lots of shops that sell cotton 'bedspreads' (for want of a better word) I have a couple, one plain and one in a pretty ethnic print. That kind of thing is widely available, is washable and you can match colours to your room. I do have one from John Lewis I paid about £50 for years ago but to be honest I have seen practically the same in the kind of shops I mentioned previously for a great deal less.

I just have the duvet cover with no duvet in it. I call it a zero tog duvet Smile

CremeEggThief · 09/06/2016 17:45

I'm still snuggled up in my 10 tog duvet, as it gets down to 8 or 9 degrees at night where I am. For a few weeks of the year, I swap to a 7.5 tog!

SweetPeaPods · 09/06/2016 17:45

Zero tog duvet here too (empty duvet cover) Smile

I've ordered a 4.5 tog duvet online. Is I'd really like a nice cotton blanket/ throw, but can't find the sort of thing I want ... I'm not really sure what to be honest.

Just a plain cotton flat sheet. I have a patchwork blanket (cotton one) at the foot of the bed if I get chilly

NapQueen · 12/06/2016 01:09

We have a 4.5tog duvet year round. I add a fleece thin blanket in winter and a hot water bottle.

What about a flat sheet with a cellular blanket over the top?

clarrrp · 12/06/2016 01:24

I hear you. I HATE being warm (summer duvet in winter, windows open all year etc) I need to be a little bit cold all the time. In hot hot weather (like the last 2 weeks) I have been sleeping under a single sheet and the window open.

The missus is on her side of the bed under the duvet though.

echt · 12/06/2016 08:49

The air conditioner. :o

But then I live in Australia. Having said that, air con is fierce and makes you cold, even when it's 30 outside at night because of your metal roof.

Grumpy's suggestion of ethnic bedspreads is good. The Indian one are very finely padded to give bit of weight, but still cool, cheap and pretty.

EnidButton · 12/06/2016 18:35

Chanel perfume obviously.

Grin Seriously, I just throw a leg out of the duvet or push it to one side usually. It's 10.5 tog but very light. I also filled a hot water bottle with cold water last week and fell asleep holding that.

Allofaflumble · 12/06/2016 19:01

Under light duvet but fan on all night.

Hopelass · 12/06/2016 19:05

Another zero tog duvet (empty duvet cover) here. Or a flat sheet.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/06/2016 19:06

A plain cotton sheet.
