Help! I need ideas for dc aged 7 and 8. They have to share a bedroom and it is just getting fuller and more out of hand every day. I've done the get-rid-of-clutter weekend and they have departed with quite a few toys but they still have loads of papers, pens, card games and small stuff.
What are your storage methods? I've got them desks with a storage cabinet thing too and about 8 boxes to stack but it still looks a mess.

We have "junk buckets" - blue medium-sized Ikea tubs - on their bookcases for all the odds and sods that don't belong anywhere else - ceral packet toys/stocking fillers, that sort of stuff. I've tried to give them a tub/area for each ting - so DD had a dolly box, a Barbie box, etc, and DS had a car box, a superhero box - basically themed so that (in theory) there's a place for everything and they can keep it under control

Magazine storage thingies - again Ikea - are good for papers and things like that. DD has so many pens etc that they just live in a great big jumble in a large lidded tub. At least they can all be bundled back in when finished with.

How about having a couple of really large tubs, and only having one at a time (and then rotating so a whole new tub of toys for next week) - the unused tubs can be stored somewhere really inaccessible because it doesn't matter! (I stole this idea from another mumsnetter!)

I think I need some of those magazine storage things. Did you get the wooden ones? We had cardboard ones but they didn't last long.

Yes, I have the wooden ones, they're about 5 years old, and fine.

What about something like This you could have paper in one pens in another etc, they could take out the whole drawer when using and just slide it away when finished

PandaG · 16/01/2007 09:38

We have something very similar to the drawers that Furball linked to, but only 3 drawers. I have 7 sets of them, some in bedroom, some in kitchen (for craft stuff - pens not allowed in bedrooms yet), and some in lounge. Is easy to rotate the toys that are in the lounge, as can just change a drawer or 2. Have a different type of toy in each drawer, and are easily accessible

I've got 3 of them. Maybe I could get 3 more as it is a good idea with the drawers. They just bring the whole drawer into the living room to play and it is quick to tidy back up.
