must have cleaning supplies!

I am a pants cleaner, I hate housework. So I have cleared a whole weekend to really attack my home. Declutter and properly clean the whole house from top to bottom, in the hope that it might be more manageable then! So what I want to know are what are the essential cleaning supplies I will need? I have a Hoover and possibly some antibac spray. What else??

I would add microfibre cloths / ecloths, glass cleaner and polish. A floor cleaner suitable for your type of flooring - though I use diluted washing up liquid. I also like a carpet freshener though not essential. I prefer a bathroom spray to use specifically for in there and I would suggest getting a bleach / toilet cleaner that you hang in the toilet bowl once you've cleaned it.

there's no need for endless flushing of bleach or cleaner down the toilet. Clean it when needed with max elbow grease/bog brush (MN faints in horror...) and minimum bleach into the water supply.

I tend to bleach my loo as I go lol. I am talking about the jobs we don't do often (well I don't!!) I want to really scrub my home!!

What cleaning jobs need doing?

Skirting boards, hoovering, dusting, throwing out crap, Windows. God everything!!!

A bucket. You need a good bucket with hot soapy water and a splash of zoflora, a couple of cloths and a roll of kitchen roll. Glass cleaner, a scrubbing brush, bathroom cleaner and some furniture polish. And a mop and bucket if you have hard floors.

I dream of a weekend to clean. Toddlers are fuckers for getting in the way of it.

I'd say get method cleaning products. Tescos now stick them. Their glad cleaner is fab, as us the multi-surface cleaner, and all their polishes. Plus the hand gel is the only one that doesn't leave my skin dry and cracked I don't work for them! Other than that on entry if bin bags and an empty car boot to get rid of stuff. Good luck with the clean, I too hate doing it but love the house when it's all clean and tidy!

Skirtings - Hot water and soap

hoovering - a Dyson

Rubbish - Bin bags (skip optional)

Windows - White vinegar and tissue paper

I second celeste on the vinegar for the Windows! I use vinegar in a spray bottle and scrunched newspaper on the windows and mirrors and my pets end up running into the back door (sorry guys). No streaks! Have to wait until DH is out the house though as he hates the smell of it!!

Oh and my new lazy wonder product is limescale remover bags from Lakeland! My kettle was looking gross and I thought it was going to be a tough job so bought loads! Only needed one in the end. You just boil the kettle, drop it in and half an hour later job is done! Kettle looked brand new!

Is it sad that I am getting quite excited about this?! Will be purchasing a spritzer bottle tomorrow!

Perhaps not as sad as me, who read this and thought "Oo, me too, a kick in the arse to finally get the awkward bits of the kitchen properly scrubbed" Let this weekend be the Great Clean

I like sponges with one scrubby side, for baths and tiles. And a harpic tablet down the toilet overnight is a wonder on limescale. Baby wipes / dryer sheets for skirting boards?

Stardrops (can be used for everything) microfibre cloths, spray bottle.
I'm also a fan of couple caps of ammonia and one cap meths in water, spray on everything from cookers to Windows (don't flame me, flame flylady she got me hooked on the stuff).

Polish - for tables, skirting boards, mantelpieces etc
Glass cleaner - for Windows
Bathroom cleaner - for bathrooms
Lime scale remover
Bleach - for toilets
Floor wipes - to clean floors
Hoover - for carpets

Bottle of prosecco

I second method products and when I had a week off for cleaning I cheated and bought a stock of snacks and ready meals so I didn't create any extra mess other than a plate for dinner.

Plenty of bin bags. Heavy duty kind if you can get them
Teabags and milk
A stack of boxes for charity shop stuff and to store things that need to go to other rooms. When I did my big clean I had boxes with each persons name so I could sort it easier and return it without 20 trips
a spare mop head - Mine can go in the washing machine, how ace is that?
Scrubbing brushes
Disposable gloves
a big pile of microfibre clothes
2 buckets. One for water one for mucky clothes.

rosyleigh what do you do with the ammonia and meths. And does it smell vile?

queen - I use it all over the place, wiping mirrors, Windows, toilet seats, tiles, kitchen work surfaces, wiping down doors and handles, skirting boards. Apparently a good stain remover from carpets too, but I've not used it for that. Yes the smell is an 'acquired' one but couple of drops of lavender oil helps.

My cleaning kit consists of ;
Sponge cleaners with scourer ( non stick pan ) types. Useful on sinks and toilets then bin them.
A few old hand towels for polishing mirrors, granite and taps
Method surface spray
Viakal descaler spray
Window cleaner for mirrors.
Furniture polish and clean spray
Kitchen paper towel roll
Old toothbrush
Decent dust pan and stuff brush for stairs
Decent broom and mop
Large bin bag to take from room to room
Wet wipes.
Toilet cleaner.
I rarely use bleach, usually just a dash to remove tannin stains.

You don't need much. And wipes are bad for the environment if you can possibly use washable cloths or paper towels instead.

White vinegar, isopropyl alcohol, dishwashing liquid and when necessary a touch of bleach take care of pretty much everything. Plus a little olive oil for real wood furniture, or jojoba oil.

Mr. Clean Magic Erasers make short work of some soils. A steam cleaner helps one avoid using chemicals in the house.

Magic sponges - they really do remove marks that seem impossible to shift
Toothbrushes for weird bits like shower doors etc
