(we have been since the previous thread we did, but today is the first day I have been able to post anything about food without throwing up!! )

We had a bit more money to spend this month but still we have done a shop for under £130 (!) - which should last us the best part of a month!

And this time I kept the receipts so will post what we bought (unless I die of boredom part-way through) - so bear with me

agree - DH also uses the calculator as well lol.

You dont have much in the way of meat in there. There were a lack of beans and pulses too? Do you already have those in your store cupboard?

Miaou · 12/01/2007 10:22

Yes VVV - we buy lentils etc in bulk (dried) and have got plenty in hand at the moment. We also had some mince left from last month which dh made into two lasagnes - so we have about six meat-based meals to keep us going! Add to that the two chickens (2 to 3 meals each) and the sausages (about another four meals) and that's about how much meat we eat in a month (we generally only eat it about two/three times a week). We also have tuna and some salmon in the freezer which we can make into fish pie and fishcakes. Yum!

miaow - with your lasagna/cottage pie etc what do you freeze those in? i'm thinking do one big one eat half and then freeze the other half in the pyrex it's cooked in?

also can you free cakes do you know?

(finally how do you make a soup wihtt eh carcas - is it on your site?)

Miaou · 12/01/2007 14:38

Ummm - lasagne - yes we just make it in a deep metal baking tray then freeze what we don't eat.

Cakes - not sure actually!! Never tried it myself.

Soup - er, I might be wrong on that one . Will ask MrMiaou to post some soup recipes on the LFL site.

Stupid question time again
When you freeze something like lasagne, do you defrost it before cooking, or cook from frozen?

Miaou · 12/01/2007 20:10

We tend to leave it out to defrost first - we don't have a microwave so we decide what we are having for lunch mid-morning then get it out then.

Great thread again Miaou, loved the last one too. You have inspired me. From a roast chicken on sunday, I got enough left overs for sandwiches for 2 days, and then made stock in the slow cooker overnight (carcass, onion, celery, boiling water). It made the most fantastic carrot soup, with a real depth of flavour, I was dead proud of myself. Now off to check your website

Miaou · 12/01/2007 21:41

Oh that sounds great headgirl! Do feel free to add your recipe for your soup to the website (there is a recipe section). Every little helps
