Operation Black Sack commences....

There is too much stuff in this house. There are too many mornings sitting here reading stuff on MN. Time to deal with both!!

I'm off upstairs with a selection of black bin bags to dispose of old toys, bits of paper, outgrown books - with no compassion or sentimentality.

Send me strength mumsnetters to get through this job without guilt or mercy. Another birthday looms for DD and another present isn't coming in here until her bedroom is liveable!

I won't be back until lunchbreak. (wanna bet?) No, really, I'm switching it off. Now. well, soon. When I've drunk my coffee.

I'm exhausted thinking about it

Good luck - I need to do the same.

Now, if I can just remember where the black bags are ...

if you wanted to spend some more time with your coffee, you could always check out flylady's guide to decluttering

k-bear, I've joined you. Sent home from work due to power cut [cheering]. Been through all my bedroom drawers and the wardrobe sorting into charity shop bag and bin bag.

Good luck

Well, my mum knocked at the door after my last post and kicked my arse (in a manner of speaking), ie she said "come on, let's go, I'll help" which was wonderful. We sat on dd's bed for about 15 minutes not knowing where to start.

We cracked on and she left at 11.30 leaving me in semi-organised chaos but at least I had a plan.

So far, lots in the paper recycling, a black sack of junk in the wheely bin, one for the charity shop, one big box for the bootfair.

I'm having a quick sarnie and a coffee then I'm back up there. I have two and a bit hours left before school run.

Feels good seeing all that floor space!

Right - you have inspired me. I'm off to get a black sack to sort out DS summer stuff that he has outgrown which has been in a pile on the landing since Oct!!!!!

Budababe · 09/01/2007 12:44

No black sacks!

littlemissbossy · 09/01/2007 12:46

BB - that's not a good enough excuse to get out of it - go out and buy some or put in a box if you have one spare

My bedroom is now beautiful for the first time in ages

kando · 09/01/2007 13:00

Been doing this too - the dds got faaaaar too much stuff for Xmas, and whilst we have a lovely big house at the moment (being paid for by DH's work ), sadly when we return to the UK we will be living in a normal sized house! Whilst they were occupied at the weekend, I managed to get rid of 6 black bags of "rubbish" - not even fit for recycling or passing on ! It's very cathartic (sp?) - if only I had the enthusiasm to do the whole house! Good luck ladies, and be ruthless

satine · 09/01/2007 13:04

I love decluttering! My dh is a hoarder, which drives me nuts. However we spent a week in a lovely holiday house in Dec which was beautifully decorated and had all the essentials but nothing else, and when we walked back into our house, he said "Blimey, we have got so much crap in this house!"
So we spent a happy couple of days sorting out bags and bags of stuff to go! It's so therapeutic.

Kbear · 09/01/2007 13:19

spanner in the works.... DS' school just called me to collect him as he wasn't feeling very well. He's now on the sofa wrapped in a blanket watching shark videos (!) and I've lost my momentum! It is crunch time up in DD's room, the point of no return. She can't sleep in there with it like that! I'm off to do a bit more before I get sucked into MN!!

Aw kbear perhaps abondone it for today, I can't declutter whent he kids are there as they rescue everything from the bag and tell me it is special, like clearing out the cutlery drawer yesterday, DD caught me and rescued her baby cutlery.

Budababe · 09/01/2007 13:45

Right - found some blue bags so have sorted landing - can actually see that we have 2 nice pieces of furniture now rather than them beind covered in piles of clothes - sorted DS's outgrown stuff and put washing and other crap away.

So there LittleMissBossy!

littlemissbossy · 09/01/2007 14:20

well done buba

Kbear · 09/01/2007 17:27

WOW - two black sacks of rubbish out of DD's room! She came home from school and joined in (thought she'd go mad but she actually is less sentimental than me). She now knows where everything is, has found lots of stuff she lost and is happy as larry up there pottering with her stuff.

I've just remembered that I haven't made any dinner and DH who as been out of the house since 5am will be home soon and will be starving. Off to do a ready steady cook with as yet unknown ingredients!

This decluttering feels great but DD's room may be immaculate but the rest of upstairs is now a tip!! ha ha
