Matresses and wee. Is there any hope?

Is there any way of cleaning a wee-soaked mattress so that it won't stink like a drunk old man in the park? Will the stench eventually go, or do I really have to buy yet another new mattress?

Before you ask, yes I do use waterproof sheeting underneath but the sheer volume of wee coming from my kids overnight has overwhelmed us and our equipment.

i dont know the answer... but wilkinons even had king size watrproof matress protectors for £2 yesturday... so may worth stocking up on a few more!

I found Fabreeze very effective on a sick-soaked matress (was v bad)- you can get antibac version too...

Yes with the febreeze and putting it outside also helped, but also buy the pampers mat thingies to use aswell as the waterproof sheet HTH

When my dd was wetting the bed someone told me to cover the wet patch in talkum powder(sp) leave to soak up usually i left it all day and then hoover off.

We have Kylies on (washable version of the pampers ones) as well as the waterproof sheet.
Talc works but I tend to just use febreeze.

Thanks ladies. I'll try the talc thing and the Febreeze.

I might adapt the talc thing by using cornflour. I noticed recently that Neals Yard talc is just made of cornflour and essential oil.

Bicarb should work too the same way it helps get rid of sick smell. Sprinkle on the mattress and leave all day before hoovering it.

Not a solution to your prestent problem but we got a mattress topper from Ikea, it can go over a waterproof cover over the normal mattress, (binbags in our case) and then use normal bedwetting cathers on top of it, I use pampers mats as they are a bit absorbant and stops it running all over theplace. The topper is thin enough that I can just get it in the washing machine if I squeeze .

You could try rinsing water right through the mattress but it is difficult to dry, DS had a foam mattress so it drys a bit better, easier in the summer but if you can prop it up against a radiator for a day. Did still stink after a while, he now has a double bed but we still went for a cheap Ikea mattress and the papmers car mats under his sheets just in case.
