has FLYING helped?

I have been looking at my house and I have been doing babysteps but had a break over christmas and a bit of a break unil children safely back at school, but it really has made a difference.

I guess I have really only been going a month and I am quite lazy and have the odd slip but generally I have slotted some kind of routine in and it happens now, DW and WM are done without thinking and the sink and bathroom are done whilst chatting to the children so I am really grateful for the thread as the site didn't do it for me but the motivation came from somewhere!

How about you?

How long have you been FLYING?

What kind of difference has it made?

i had to give up as between my destructive toddler undoing everything i did, my baby wanting to be held 24/7 and dp bitching that i 'clean too much' and refusing to let me get on with it i wasn't getting any off the routines done and was just feeling crappy i still manage to do the evening routine stuff...... but thats about the extent of it

ludaloo · 07/01/2007 16:09

It has helped me! Like you say...baby steps have worked a treat, and like you I now do things without even thinking about it.
The house doesn't seem to get so bad I can't ressurect it again!
It has helped me to keep on top definately.
It is also very encouraging to know I'm not the only one!!!!!!

Cappuccino · 07/01/2007 16:33

I've slipped in and out of it for the past 6 months, but it has definitely helped; as much with my stress levels as anything else, as I no longer think I have to do everything NOW

I'd recommend it to anyone

tortoise · 07/01/2007 16:36

I'm not a perfect FLYer but i have found the de-cluttering first has made a difference to the amount of stuff i have to tidy!
Its also much quicker to tidy now.

DimpledThighs · 07/01/2007 19:18

tort how long did the first decluttering take you?

I haven't been FLYing for long but I've found it really helpful - I know it seems silly in a way to have to be told to do certain jobs but to me it really does help! 'Hotspots' have always been a problem of mine (piles of paper are my worst enemy - they seem to breed) so I'm hoping as time goes on these will be dealt with routinely and therefore stop building up till they become a problem and I can't find anything. I already feel more able to manage and a tidier environment is really helping my mood. And the fLY thread is always a friendly, encouraging place to be

JustIvor · 07/01/2007 19:37

Sorry to hear that PinkTulips. I hope that things improve for you soon.

I barely glance at the FLY website and rarely do the mission. I use the daily FLY threads to keep up the motivation for getting the house into more order. I can see an improvement from some months ago and hope that by the end of this year it will be able to be company ready nearly all the time. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch on the daily FLY threads I think and new posters are always welcome.

When I started back in about August it made a massive difference! It seems slow at first, but, before I knew it I was up out of bed, into shower, cleaning the bathroom without thinking about it, dressed walk into a sprakling kitchen... it was really good. Im not doing it now... ive done bits and bobs, the habits really do stay with you! Giving the bathroom a quick once over if you have a second spare etc. I tended to pick and chose - did the baby steps, then added in the daily mission, then all the "home blessing hour" etc. I ignore the cheesy emails, but haven't blocked them as it's good to suddenly get a "go to bed!" and "drink your water!". I really do recommend it. When I was at my "strongest", I was FLYing, I'm in no doubt it helped me

Quootiepie · 07/01/2007 19:41

*sparkling

tortoise · 07/01/2007 19:43

DimpledThighs I'm still in the process of de-cluttering. Its an ongoing task at the moment until i chuck out all the junk which i keep hanging onto that i don't need. I have found things i put away a month or so ago have no been binned/recycled/donated because it hadn't been used in that time.

Surfermum · 07/01/2007 19:45

It transformed my house a couple of months ago, then with all the madness of Christmas first the daily task went by the wayside and then things slipped again. However, I've started again this week, clearing hot spots an starting a massive declutter.

Like Quootie says, some habits stay with you and I swish and swipe every day, and try to do a load of washing every day and it's been fantastic to be on top of the washing/ironing all the time.

Quootiepie · 07/01/2007 19:45

Even DH gives himself a job a day now So far the smoke alarms have finally gone up , a new dimmer switch put it, door handle on, TV mounted on wall...

singersgirl · 07/01/2007 19:54

It made a major difference to my house a few months ago, and I've still kept the major tenets going - keep my sink clean and tidy, morning routine, before bed routine, and hotspots alert. Putting my laundry away as soon as it's done (obvious but not to me) made a significant difference, as did emptying the dishwasher as soon as it's done. Actually I reshone my sink today, with bleach etc.

I've let it slip over Christmas and in December because we were having our bathroom done and the house was in chaos.

DH and I have both found the 15 minute idea very helpful for all sorts of domestic tasks. We used to look at the mess in the office and get dispirited, but now we know we can do 15 minutes tidying and it will get better.

I also like being told what to do. There are lots of non-essential things where I think "Oh, I must sort that out some day". But Flylady tells me when to do it - eg my tupperware, or my plastic bag drawer. Matching my plastic pots and lids sounds so trivial, but it's made my daily life a lot better!

DimpledThighs · 08/01/2007 09:54

funny I never put the clothes away and sometimes I would notice that they would fall on the floor get mixed up and end up bad in the washing basket without being worn !

What's flying please?

fortyplus · 08/01/2007 10:06

Yes - can we have a link, please?

Cappuccino · 08/01/2007 10:11

here she is

DimpledThighs · 08/01/2007 10:11

Oh capp - you beat me (curse my slo w cut and paste skills!)

fortyplus · 08/01/2007 10:20

Thank you, ladies! Just had a quick look - bit worried by the idea of putting stickers on a calendar to remind me to do jobs on certain days!

DimpledThighs · 08/01/2007 10:22

don't get daunted - just pick and choose what you want to do, that is how I do it (I don't do the stickers thing either!)

It is esay to be put off by flylady but if you go through and take the bits that will help you it is much better. Basically the little and often approach is the key.

OP posts:
fortyplus · 08/01/2007 10:24

Actually my house is usually reasonably tidy - I just chuck everything in the cellar or the spare room!

satinshoes · 08/01/2007 11:06

definitely helped me. Now back into 'normal' housework a few weeks after having a baby. Admit that serious nesting occurred before due date but getting into a routine has made housework easy to get back into.

dreamteamgirl · 08/01/2007 11:39

LOL fortyplus have never read the stickers on calender bit.. I just rely on the thread here, checking the missions page myself or reading the combined email

fortyplus · 08/01/2007 11:43

My house would be a lot cleaner if I never went on MN!

noddyholder · 08/01/2007 11:44

what is flying????????????
