Brabantia bins

I've always been very impressed with Brabantia Customer Service. Last week the 'prong' on the lid unit of my Touch bin (that the catch clicks into), snapped off.

I called them, hoping they might send me a new lid, as I'd read how good they are at replacing.

I told them the bin was 5 or 6 years old and asked what they could advise.
They sent me a link to their online spares page, and said they could replace for free, but only if I had proof of purchase. I replied saying I had no receipt after 6 years, and I couldn't justify paying £34 for a new lid.

They replied with, "sorry about that, thanks for letting us know!!"
Seems they'd been too generous in the past and have changed their policy.

Anyone had similar dealings with them recently? Should I give up or persue it?
Love my binSad

Bragadocia they need a receipt to prove bin is still within warranty. unless you have proof of purchase which states model etc. then I guess the receipt is the way the manufacturer deals with these issues. they don't provide parts FOC for life...

Ah, but until recently they did replace parts without proof of purchase (even the whole bin lid.) You only have to google to see how many customers have received free bin lid units on request.
I guess they've reined in their generosity somewhat!
I can't remember what month, or indeed year, I bought the bin; can't even recall what it cost. We were doing up the house around 2009/10 so too many purchases to pinpoint in a bank statement.
Thanks for all the suggestions though everyone. Thanks

I guess you need a receipt to prove you actually own one of their bins and are not just selling the lids on eBay?

Sainsburys do their own version on the bin liners.

Sauvignon - I could always send them a photo of me holding the lid in one hand and the broken prong in the other, sporting a sad Daily Fail face! Wink

Great idea - go on, do it! Grin

Update (on this thrilling thread!)
Superglue! That's what I've used to stick the prong back on. Don't know if it'll last the weekend, but DH reckons if not, he will drive a nail through the plastic (and craft the nail- head into same shape as the prong!)
Genius!

I love it when the OP updates.

Sorry I don't know how to link, would love someone to tell me.
Search Sugru, it may be just what you need.

Footle · 29/03/2016 14:36

It's mouldable very strong glue.

3catsandcounting · 29/03/2016 15:42

Footle - thanks for that - never seen it before!
Well, as predicted the superglue didn't last; a nail is next thing to try, or Sugru as Footle suggested.

Will you update ? Friends have used it and it seems to be magic.

CakeUpWall · 29/03/2016 16:15

Love Sugru!

It has saved us a fortune over the last couple of years: plugged a bra-wire puncture in washing machine drum, filled hole in sole of DD's school shoes, made new clips for storage compartment door in the car, fixed numerous shit Apple cables, DS did something v clever inside his PC Confused and loads more that I can't quite recall.

However, I have been living with a broken bin lid and didn't think of it. D'oh! Thanks for the nudge Footle. Smile

Thing is, reading up on Sugru, it says it remains rubbery and pliable when it's set. Not sure it's right for my prong replacement. It think it needs to be rigid?

Ok. Final post (hopefully) Epic fail on superglue as expected. DH saved the day by drilling through the plastic on the bin lid with a small screw, the head of which has now become the prong that 'clicks ' into the catch. £34 saved. He is my bin hero.
