What to do about stacking my tumble dryer on top of my washing machine

Help! I've currently got a Hotpoint washing machine and tumble dryer and the td stacks cleverly on top of the wm using a special stacking kit from Hotpoint.

Problem is that my washing machine is on its last legs but the dryer is fine. I've just looked at new machines and you can't stack my dryer on a new machine (and they don't make a dryer that does at the moment).

Does anyone know if there are wall brackets available which can hold a dryer or if there's another solution? I just don't have space to have them side by side. But I've got to have a new machine soon! Ta muchly

We have a washing machine under a normal kitchen worksurface in the utility, with the tumble dryer on top of the worksurface.

It isn't secured, because the weight holds it in position - it's been there for a couple of years.

I would think a couple of right angle brackets fixed to the worksurface would give you peace of mind, if you think it necessary.

Thanks fairyjay, there's just one problem - I don't know whether we'd be able to put in a bit of worktop because there's very little space between the machines and the freezer next to it and also it couldn't be supported at the front. I think that I might need to get a handy man in!

Mine is just on top with a bit of carpet between - it's fine

I had that same arrangement of hotpoint washer and TD stacked on top, so I know which bit of kit you mean that joins them.

Can you not use the existing holes in the old TD and drill new ones very carefully in the top frame of the new washer and join them with a bracket?

Or take your joining kit (the big square frame thing) to the shop and wander around trying to see which model it would actually fit on?

Well theMoon I've got a spare kit so I did take it along this morning! The guy in JL (unusually for there) was actually quite unhelpful and kept going on about if the machine then went wrong it might not be under warranty etc which I thought was a load of rubbish.

I quite like the new Aqualtis range as it has a 7.5kg load but asked to see others comparable and all the others he showed me were 6kg ones. Not impressed!

Just been and looked at mine... which are now side by side coz i've moved house. The holes in the washer are predrilled already, so you might have a bit of a job making holes in a new machine.

Another thought I had was, could you not just sit it on with some padding between the two... someone said carpet earlier... but then secure the TD by using a bracket screwed into the plastic top and up to the wall... Like Ikea do for heavy bookcases, stop them toppling forward.

Ta muchly themoon. I'll do some experimenting I think!

Ours tumble dryer is just sat on top of our washer with no brackets or anything, has been for years and never had it fall off or even move.

Well, we took our frame thing to Curry's this afternoon and it fits fine so we've ordered the Aqualtis from there instead and will just hope that it's all ok when it arrives!
