Cat urine smell! Please help!

After DS2 arrived 7 weeks ago, our cat expressed her displeasure by peeling under the cot in his newly decorated room, on the brand new carpet.
We have treated with pet odour remover and then washed with a vax, but the smell is still there! Does anyone have any magic solutions? DS is not sleeping in his room yet, but the smell is horrible - we really need to fix it before he moves in there!

Which pet odour remover did you use? Some are better than others.

I would get a professional in asap. Cat pee smell is very hard to get rid of.

Sorry to appear to question your competence at following instructions, but this comes from personal experience! We treated a heavy cat pee patch on a new carpet with pet odour remover, Simple Solution, but what we failed to do was completely saturate the patch with plain cold water (then soak that up with a towel) before completely saturating the patch with product. Two repeat applications of the odour remover have now worked at removing the odour but only by first saturating with water. I think the water helps dilute the urine and activate the odour remover. You have to be really brave a absolutely saturate the patch so that it soaks right through to the underlay.

Oh, and we've since been recommended 'Odour Eliminator' made by Pet Health Care, by the nurse at our vet's. I've used it once and it seems to have done the trick. (Old cat with renal problems who sometimes get caught short.)

The combination of the new carpet and new furniture has disrupted the normal scent profile in that room. Cats maintain a 'home' scent profile by cheek rubbing but if there's a sudden massive change, they get very stressed and use urine. Spraying feliway on the carpet will normalise the scent profile (to your cat) and prevent future spraying. Biological washing powder will break down existing odours.

It sounds as if your cat is very stressed by the new changes and it's worth doing some reading on reducing her stress levels before this gets worse

Try using a solution of Bicarbonate of Soda. It's a vile smell, hope you get rid of it asap.

Are you sure it didn't go all the way through to the underlay/ floorboards?
