Before putting it on dc's bed for the first time?

absolutely!
fabrics are treated with pesticides and fungicides for shipping.
not to mention excess dye, lots of handling during manufacture and gross warehouses/shop floors.

Cato1999 · 29/02/2016 14:15

Yes, I always do just to soften it.

Mellifera · 29/02/2016 14:16

Yes I would. I wash everything before wearing for the first time. Bedding included.

KoalaDownUnder · 29/02/2016 14:17

Yes. Just to soften it up and take away the chemical smell.

I don't think it's heinously gross not to, though. (Although half of mumsnet will now freak out over it.)

Pinkheart5915 · 29/02/2016 14:18

yes, I always do to soften it.

Buzzardbird · 29/02/2016 14:22

Yes, especially for a child.

Kingfisherfree · 29/02/2016 14:25

I haven't and I have got new bedding on 2 beds. I think I might strip the beds now. Confused

MissTessmacher · 29/02/2016 14:27

Yes.

Couldn't put bedding on my beds that had been sat potentially for months in plastic packaging. Plus they're always creased to fuck when you first take them out.

CaptainCallisto · 29/02/2016 14:40

I usually do. I forgot to do the Thomas the Tank Engine set DS1 got for Christmas (he was so excited!) and it dyed the mattress protector, duvet, and pillow blue Angry

Leviticus · 29/02/2016 20:37

Er no... DCs are currently lying on sheets straight from the packet yesterday.

They survived the night last night so I'm hopeful for tonight.

Grin
chumbler · 01/03/2016 14:12

Wow never thought to do this. For DD I would but I love lying in brand new sheets / wearing clothes with that still new smell!

CremeEggThief · 01/03/2016 14:15

No. I'll carry on taking my chances!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 01/03/2016 14:15

Always wash, to get rid of dust, chemicals etc.

Tiggeryoubastard · 01/03/2016 14:20

Yes, you know there's all sorts of vermin on the ships that transport them, and they're overloaded with chemicals because of this. I don't understand how anybody would not wash anything new coming into contact with their children, even if they wouldn't for themselves. It's not that difficult to put it in the washer.

cozietoesie · 01/03/2016 14:40

Yes. I like to check that there are no manufacturing flaws that aren't apparent otherwise.

Leviticus · 02/03/2016 21:01

Tigger it's simply that for 30 odd years - pre MN basically - I had no idea I was supposed to. Plus as chumbler says I like the smell of new clothes.

NateGreen · 04/03/2016 06:33

We wash everything new as you never know where it's been and who touched it.
