miele or henry hound?

nothercules · 26/12/2006 13:57

Okay we have 2 dogs (lots of hair and moulting. Our garden door comes straight into our dining/kitchen and we have laminate downstairs and carpet upstairs (dogs not allowed upstairs).

Ds and I suffer from asthma occasionally and I am fed up with a constantnly filthy laminate floor despite mopping every sodding day!

Have searched archives and henry and miele seem to be the most recommended.

How is the Henry Hound on getting up dog hair and does it have that filter thing for asthma sufferers?

Any where I can get them cheap from?

Thanks in advance!

Miele wins hands down on the which report, but they only reviewed Numatic Henry HVR200 which got poor results. Here are the rundowns of the top best buys (I have the Miele Cat & Dog TT 5000 and it is the best vacuum I have ever had, we have 2 dogs too)

Miele S4510
Price: £170
Score: 74 %
This Best Buy Miele cylinder vac impresses across the board and has a range of superior features.
It does a great job on most surfaces and sucks up pet hair a treat as well as being easy to use.

Miele S380
Price: £96
Score: 70 %
This is Miele's self-declared most basic cylinder vac but, with fantastic cleaning results across the board, it has all the brand's classic hallmarks.
With its bright 'corn yellow' colouring, the Miele S380 is certainly less subtly shaded and lacks the stylish revamped look of its brandmates, but that shouldn't detract from the fact that it gives excellent results on laminate and wooden floors and doesn't disappoint on carpet, either.

Miele S4210
Price: £130
Score: 72 %
The Best Buy S4210 is a lightweight, easy-to-use cleaner that's great on most surfaces.
As a basic model, it doesn't have lots of extra features, but it's quiet, effective and reliable.
This is the entry-level model in the S4 range ? it lacks the dusting brush accessory and comes with a standard, not a turbo, brush head. It's no slouch though: leaving laminate and wooden floors speck free and doing a decent job on carpets, too.

Miele Cat & Dog TT 5000
Price: £189
Score: 74 %
This Miele is the specialist pet hair cleaner within the range. Not only does it make light work of ridding rooms of pet hair with its turbobrush, it's outstanding on wooden floors and good on other surfaces, too.
Features include a full sized and mini-turbobrush nozzle which helps this vac produce excellent results at picking up pet hairs off carpet and dust from floorboards.

What no sebo?

Panyanpickle77 · 26/12/2006 14:16

Its a best buy, but I cherry picked the top best buys.
Sebo Felix 1 Premium
Price: £229
Score: 64 %
The main strengths of this Best Buy Sebo vac are cleaning laminate floors and dealing with pet hair.

It's quirky looking, but ignore its unusual exterior as this upright vac's internal workings are pretty impressive.

Panyanpickle77 · 26/12/2006 14:17

Also this may be of use ..........................Don't BuysWe rarely find an upright vacuum cleaner that's good at every task but performance of some models is so disappointing we'd recommend all Which? readers give them a miss.

For example, in our tests the Hoover Purepower U3485, Morphy Richards 73362 Pets and Vax V-008U Performance were all very poor at cleaning carpets and at retaining allergens.

They were noisy compared with most other models.

The Hoover and Vax models are slightly redeemed by the decent results they produced cleaning wooden and laminate floors, but overall they have too many failings to be worth buying.

Our other Don't Buy vacuum cleaners are the Hoover The One, Sanyo SC780 and Henry HVR200.

Thanks very much for the information. Looks like it will be the miele!

our miele is ACE, after a decade of a dyson it is positively a joy to use
WE also have a dd sensitive to house dutmites and this little miele does the job FAB!

dreamteamgirl · 29/12/2006 10:23

Mrsaek Thanks dfor this, am looking for a new vacuum cleaner as well. Brand new carpets are getting trashed and Dyson 04 really isnt doing the job.

I was looking at the Dyson 14 Animal, any idea how that compares, or would you reccomend the Miele 5000 over that?

Thanks!

This Miele looks like a bargain!

(I once got a washer really cheap due to a website typo but I don't imagine people will be rushing for this one!)

We don't the dogs go upstairs where teh carpet is so I wonder if I do need the miele cat and dog. I do need one to pick up hair and dust from laminate though. COuld I get away with a cheaper miele do you think rather than the cat and dog one as I'm not picking hair off carpets?

OP posts:
noddyholder · 29/12/2006 13:43

You can buy the turbo brush and put it on any miele so no need to buy the cat and dog specifically

dreamteamgirl · 29/12/2006 13:50

I have just found this one

Is that the one? Seems a good price, but have never had a vacuum cleaner with bags before. Are they a pain? Do they fill up very quickly?

dreamteamgirl · 29/12/2006 13:51

LMAO JanH that is a bit of a errr bargain isnt it?
