Breadmaker ingredients

I have asked for a Panasonic breadmaker for Christmas. Not sure if I am going to get it yet but in case I do, what ingredients shall I buy this week to make sure I have them in my cupboard so I can make some bread on Boxing day?

Strong white/brown bread flour
skimmed milk powder
sunflower oil
fast action yeast

bit of salt
bit of sugar

If you like playing with recipes, worth thinking about having some dried fruit and nuts around for a sweet fruit bread, maybe some seeds to make sunflower bread or 4 seed loaf.
When feeling brave, experiment with extra ingredients such as honey instead of the sugar, marmite, molasses, sun dried toms and herbs, cheese etc etc etc
Could go on and on! My breadmaker is used daily and I LOVE it. Once you get used to the basic fast white loaf, you soon build up a few extra recipes which turn the average loaf into something spectacular with only a handful of store cupboard ingreds.
If you do get one, buy seville oranges in the New Year (best time of year for them) and make marmalade in it! Honestly, a breadmaker is the best, easiest and least messy way of making jam and marmalade known to woman!
Hope you get one
If not..go in the sales and buy one anyway!!

noooo you have a scoop...no weighing involved!

KathyMCMLXXII · 19/12/2006 13:10

As long as you have the flour and the yeast, everything else is optional.

Thank you very much ladies! And if I don't get one for Christmas, then I will go out and buy it myself!

Go to supermarket & buy a bread mix! They do whole wheat, multi grain, basic white, cheese & onion. All for bread makers, all taste fab & less hassle than trying to weigh ingredients with post Xmas tremors

Bread mixes all got yucky ingredients in though - the ones I've seen have got hydrogenated oil in. That's the sort of thing I want to avoid by making my own bread!

Pretty sure I've seen some organic ones. I'll have to check. They're great though and the smell is soooooo yummy

I'd also get the Hovis Granary flour. Makes lurvely bread. Hope you get it - happy baking if you do

I got my breadmaker! . Only bad news is DH is fascinated with it so I have not got a look in yet!. One question though, the recipe book measures things by weight but I thought I could just use the scoop, so am I being dense here? Or will it all become clear once he lets me have a go.
