I have got lazy and need to get myself into a new routine, does anyone have a set routine of what they do each day? Do you stick to it and does it work?

Oh I do change beds on Sundays. We have a general clean up of the house normally at weekends.

Pre school - make beds, water cups in kitchen and empty bins
After morning run - clean kitchen, bathroom and living room
After dinner - clean kitchen
Before bed - boys tidy living room and before my bed time wash up cups.
Tuesday - deeper clean living room, kitchen and bathroom
Thursday - strip beds and clean bedrooms
Friday - potter and admin
Sahm one in primary and one pre school three mornings a week
Ps one wash a day and ironing done Wednesday and Sunday nights

I've wanted a roomba since watching Breaking Bad, unfortunately I'm sure my dogs would kill it!

I do the taking stuff upstairs thing - I just need to put it away and not dump it somewhere, I'm very good at rearranging piles of junk and moving said piles to another place.

Oh and I don't do ironing, that's the tumble dryers job Smile

If I'm at home after kids have gone to school, I make myself spend at least an hour doing household things before I get distracted, usually putting washing out, ironing, a little tidying, changing a bed. I do work part-time, but aim to do another task before leaving, quick hoover, shopping list, clean bathroom or tidying. Also, set myself another task in the afternoon which maybe hoovering if needs doing, a little gardening, today it'll be dusting and checking on our finances. The house is never immaculate but at the same time it's never a complete mess.

Interesting ideas here. I've just given notice on my big contract so I'll be at home without children from 9-3 two days per week, and I'm trying to work out what house work I can fit in and not just ignore. Does anyone batch cook during the week? I love when I get the time to do it, but I don't manage it regularly enough.

OliviaDunham · 11/01/2016 15:57

I don't batch cook at all, not keen on reheats, I know, I'm fussy!

I love batch cooking! I rarely have the time to do it. But if I make something like a lasagne, chilli, spag Bol, pie etc I can usually make it so that there's one adult or child sized portion left to go in the freezer. It builds up over time so then we can have 'freezer nights' or give the kids something nutritious whilst we have a takeaway when they're in bed when I can't be bothered to cook. It often means we all have something different to eat but it works for us and saves time and money.

Every morning, make the beds
After school run wipe down kitchen and sweep under table.

Monday - ironing
Tuesday - deep clean kitchen. Vacuum and steam downstairs floors
Wednesday - dust living room
Thursday - deep clean bathroom
Friday - change beds, dust bedrooms, vacuum upstairs.

I get up at 6am, feed dogs, empty kitchen bin and put a wash on while kettle is boiling....
Wake dc's for school, make beds, chuck some bleach down the toilets, quick hoover and polish downstairs, feed rabbits and then leave for work at 7.30 am....
I get in at night and sort washing, do dinner, help with homework, quick clean of bathroom and chuck dc's in bath. While they're in the bath I'll get all our uniform ready for the following day.
Once they're in bed I'll have a large glass of wine and fall into bed....
Change bedding and hoover upstairs at the weekends.....

I use the Home Routines app mentioned upthread and it is amazing. I am a completely lazy git but it makes me get off my butt and keep the house clean.

I have daily tasks (make beds, load dishwasher, put in load of laundry etc) as well as a repeating chore schedule. Basically, I do the main floor one day, the upstairs the next, followed by the main floor on day 3...etc. It takes me approximately 45 minutes each evening and my house is now beautifully clean at all times. And I am on top of the laundry which is a minor miracle. Grin

daisydalrymple · 11/01/2016 20:08

zippy I'm exhausted too Grin our house is an absolute tip, it needed renovating when we moved in 9 years ago and still Isn't finished, add 3 dcs and all their stuff to the mix and there's just always something to do.

My lovely dad has advanced Alzheimer's, we finally moved him into a home in 2015, but for the two years prior I was looking after him during the day in his own home, so stuff has just built up and not been cleared out. Have given myself 6 months to do a good clear out (kondo style Grin).

I'm not big on baby groups, but do go to the library stuff and see friends/ family or get out and about after lunch.

Daily bits and bobs like kitchen. I clean the toilet every couple of days, bathroom gets a quick wipe (walk in shower wet room and separate bath tub so tub rarely gets used in the week) every week or so, but cleaner comes in and does the hardcore stuff.

Downstairs floors get done when they need doing as 2 dogs + wooden floors. Washing... When we're running low ;)

I'm trying to sort out a routine now I'm back at work. Back at work 3 days and with my two kids four days.

Non work days

  • get up and get kids up
  • make beds
  • do breakfast dishes, sweep kitchen and wipe down table after breakfast
  • Hoover Downstairs
-put on a washing
  • grab baskets and collect any random stuff downstairs and take it to the offending
person's room upstairs.
  • sort lunch and dinner dishes as I go (waiting on dishwasher being installed).
  • sort washing into separate bags according to person they belong to and put away in drawers in each room.
  • wipe down cloakroom and ensuite

On work days I just keep on top of dishes.

Friday night I do a black wash when I come in from work.
Saturday morning hubby watches kids and I Hoover upstairs, dust upstairs, mop kitchen and bathroom, cloakroom and ensuite
I also do two coloured washes.
Sunday - white wash and bedding
Monday - towel wash

Still trying to get the hang of it all.
