Any ideas how I can get this sorted? Or even just make it look a bit better?

Woops. Table, rug over it?

moopymoodle · 01/01/2016 10:04

I did this a few years ago. I actually shaved the burnt area out with a razor. Works ok on light carpets, won't be ideal but does improve it a lot :)

What's the blue stripe next to it?

5BlueHydrangea · 01/01/2016 10:08

You could do 5 more in a pretty flower like pattern??
Or do loads all over the place - new style??
Not helpful sorry..

Pipistrella · 01/01/2016 10:08

sorry probably a shadow and an irrelevant question anyway

I think your carpet has sadly had its day though.

Pipistrella · 01/01/2016 10:09

Is there any chance you could cut and replace only a square of it, somehow? Or a strip? Could you have a join somewhere?

TheSquashyHatofMrGnosspelius · 01/01/2016 10:09

Repeat the pattern all over the rest of the carpet so it looks like that is how the pattern is meant to be perhaps? HTH :/

VulcanWoman · 01/01/2016 10:09

A rug is the only answer I'd say.

FlatOnTheHill · 01/01/2016 10:11

I think a rug too.

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 01/01/2016 10:12

Nothing you can do to salvage the carpet unfortunately as its melted. So it's either a rug or a new carpet.

AuntieMaggie · 01/01/2016 10:12

DP shaved a similar mark out of our carpet with a razor... you'll probably be able to Google it.

insancerre · 01/01/2016 10:19

I would get a new carpet. Unless its not your carpet, in which case you're screwed. Its going to be expensive either way

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 01/01/2016 10:39

House insurance. Do you have accidental damage cover?

Baressentials · 01/01/2016 10:43

Think your carpet is gonna. My ds did the same to my dads 12 month old landing carpet.(Not sure if my dad was more shocked by the carpet or thatr sa 15 had been near an iron! Turns out my dad had left the iron on and ds tripped over the flex.)
After looking at his insurance and speaking to the carpet shop that had fitted it he ended up just replacing a section of it rather than the whole thing. You genuinely can't see the join unless you know it is there and are looking for it. It was quite a long pile (or shaggy if anyone still uses that term Wink)
So that maybe worth considering.

Baressentials · 01/01/2016 10:44

*Should say more shocked by the carpet or that my 15yr old ds had been near an iron

Trumpton · 01/01/2016 11:47

If you have spare carpet then it's possible to patch. Put spare carpet over burn and cut through BOTH LAYERS with a very sharp Stanley knife . Make sure that you do not change the orientation of the patch. Lift out the damaged area and put patch in. You can use carpet tape to hold patch in .

hullywully · 01/01/2016 18:45

Thanks very much for all your help. I think a new carpet is a must now. We rent but have found someone who will lay laminate for about £200. It's what we wanted in that room anyway. With two under two, I don't think carpet was ever going to work for us. I'll ask the landlord his advice but could be an opportunity to start fresh.
Thanks again all.

As you are renting, you must check that the landlord is okay with what you propose to change the damaged carpet for before going ahead.
