think mine are anodised, quite new but have now got baked on black debris. have tried scrubbing them but no good ...

Has anyone cracked this problem ? (without ruining the finish)
thanks!

This isn't exactly going to help but I bought Amazon (own brand) silicone mats to go on the baking tray. They are superb. I've since bought some for MIL who also loves them. They clean no problem and nothing sticks to them. Even cookies are great. (Not a salesman, honest!)

thanks for that 4yoniD , but i don't trust my silicone mats in that way.

what do i do with this new tray which is now soiled ?!! its like concrete..
anyone ?

Oven pride? It's the stuff you put in a bag and leave overnight

wavingfuriously · 09/12/2015 21:20

ah ok thanks nancy, never heard of that but will be heading to the shops tomorrow..

Oven Pride will remove the anodising, will also take off non stick coating.

treaclesoda · 09/12/2015 21:30

I soak mine in biological washing powder dissolved in boiling water.

VegetablEsoup · 09/12/2015 21:34

I put the tray on the hob, fill halfway up with water, add some bio washing powder, bring to the boil and then scrub once cooled.

wavingfuriously · 09/12/2015 22:42

ok well may avoid the oven pride then, thanks for your input people, it sounds like elbow grease is the order of the day !

Have you tried the damp dishwasher tablet to scrub? It's a MN trick for glass oven doors and I've used it on my hob, should work on a baking tray.

wavingfuriously · 10/12/2015 13:34

Thank you Whois. this morning i tried the trick treaclesoda and Vegetabl recommended with the bio washing powder and it worked a treat !!

thanks so much what a brilliant site this is !!Smile

I was really fed up about my baked on dirty trays because they are new.
This has saved the day.

Just for future reference I would always buy vitreous enamel trays. The ones from Procook are good, but I have others from years ago and they still look like new. You can scrub them with those wire kitchen scrubbers and you will never damage them. If I want them to be non stick I use silicone baking sheets and this sort of stuff www.lakeland.co.uk/5571/Magic-Non-stick-Liner-33-x-100cm-Sheet?gclid=CIS_o7fI2MkCFcvpwgodPfQBNw&src=gfeed&s_kwcid=AL!49!3!69393931229!!!g!42887660784!&ef_id=VhY0UQAABepjGVIh:20151213095322:s

Biological washing powder is great stuff. I soak my oven shelves in the cheapest biological powder I can find and hot water. Then scrub them with those wire scrubbers I mentioned. You need barely any elbow grease and they come up sparkling.

Bicarbonate of soda. Make a paste, scrub it over and leave it overnight. Should soften the concrete.

Sgtmajormummy · 13/12/2015 10:08

You've already sorted it.... Great!
