Gtech air am or dyson?

Recommendations needed! I have always been a dyson fan, but mine is getting a bit old now, and a friend has been raving about her new Gtech. We have a mix of laminate, tiles and short carpet, and a cat in a medium size house. Which would you choose?

Ooh I am deliberating over these too. I had a look in John Lewis at the weekend at the Dyson V6 which I really liked the look of. Very easy to move around and extremely light to lift, which is important to me because I have arthritis in my elbows. However the running time was only 20 minutes and I didn't like the way you have to empty it. Then I had a look at the Gtech Air ram. It was quite good but I think I would need to get a separate handheld for my stairs. A friend has one and loves it. You get 60 minutes out of it. I am now dithering over the Bosch Athlet too. Anyone got one?

Are you asking about the cordless Dyson to compare with the cordless Gtech?

I bougth the Dyson because I've had an upright for nearly 15 years, no problems with it in that time but it developed a fault and Dyson no longer services that particular model.

I do like the Dyson, themost annoying thing is that it needs emptying VERY frequently. It doesn't have much running time either, but I think the newer models are improved in that respect. My house is small and I'm the only one who lives in it. No pets.
I decided not to get the Gtech because it didn't come with a crevice tool or high reach tool. The Dyson converts to a handheld very easily and is brilliant for stairs etc. The Gtech doesnt. The Gtech is easier to empty.

TBH, if I had a pet I'd stick to a traditional vacuum cleaner, either until Dyson improves it's charged running time and needs emptying less often, or until Gtech converts to a handheld.

I have both and the gtech is the lightest and goes wrong far less than my dyson.
Have two cats and a fluffy dog and gtech is v good, you do have to empty often but it takes two seconds, would recommend over dyson

Following with interest as I am a Dyson fan but my last died sob & the equivalent model seems very light & flimsy.

2 Goldies (aka as hair dispensers) & 2 cats but small house so efficiency more important than long battery life.

Fintan there are a lot of offers around that combine the Gtech plus its handheld for less than both seperately.

I have one of each and it is like comparing apples and pears, both equally good depending what you want the for.

Stairs, skirting boards, crevices, small rooms ( downstairs loo and en-suite pre mopping) dyson wins. Large rooms floor space - sitting room, bedrooms, hall - I get out the G-Tech.

If they both died at the same time and I could only buy one replacement I would replace the dyson - more versatility without thousands on bits that are never in the right place - I would just have to clean more often and it will only clean one storey before charging (3 storey house)

Oh Floundering don't tell me that, my credit card is twitching !

Thanks, some useful points there. I was thinking for the main Hoover, but would have to get a separate hand held if I went for the Gtech. I may have to spend some time in John Lewis looking at them! I'm useless at decisions.

I hate Dyson with a passion and have a Gtech Air ram which I love. But I bought the handheld Gtech for doing stairs/car/edges etc and it's a pile of crap. No suction. In fact I'm going to complain cos it's pathetic and less than a year old. I've only used it half a dozen times. I could suck more with a straw!

The Gtech upright is fab though and I can Hoover the whole upstairs on one charge!

Floundering · 08/11/2015 23:26

Interesting Kansas worth asking for a replacement to see if its a dodgy one or just a crap product?!

Can't afford one just now but maybe next year......Grin

MadauntofA · 09/11/2015 15:23

So if I get the Gtech, and the hand held isn't brilliant, which handheld (pref around £50) would you buy?

Floundering · 09/11/2015 21:02

Not a clue Grin

Always get cleaners with long hoses & attachments.

kansasmum · 09/11/2015 21:33

I got an Electrolux handheld ( but not cordless) from Amazon for £40 for stairs and the car and it's fabulous!
Much better than Gtech but not as convenient as cordless.
