Was just wandering if anyone had any smart tips on how to get rid of condensation-its our first winter in our new house and the windows are coverd every morning!

My mum mentioned that you used to be able to get little tubs with crystal like things in them that you put on the windowsill but i've no idea where you get them from.

We'd really like not to have to buy a dehumidifier but may have to . . . . .

you can get those things with gel in from woolworths (for sure!) and i think wilkinsons as well!

also if you dry your washing inside it will make condenstaion....

also try and open your windows as much as poss to get dry air in and allow the water to leave naturally.

also when you have a steamy bathroom be sure to open the bathroom window and close the bathroom door!

We get that too. It was terrible this morning in ds room as we had borrowed a humidifier from my neighbour for ds's bad cough. The blind was wet at the bottom and the windows were dripping. I soaked a towel mopping it up.
I usually open the windows and leave it for a while (and shut the door- while we go down for breakfast )after wiping them down . It only happens in the bedrooms though and the bathroom when we have a shower.

I find wiping the windows with tissue in the morning gets rid of the condensation a treat! We have a dehumidifer btw thats on 24hrs, still get condensation in the bedrooms, I guess from us breathing.

Thanks everyone!

That water eater sounds good!
Its got so bad now-think we'll have to try all the suggestions & buy a dehumidier!

Any more ideas or suggestions about with dehumidifier is best?

We found that with sash windows leaving them open just the tiniest gap (I mean shunted up slightly, but still in the position where you can screw down the catch to have them locked) stopped any condensation.

Have the same problem - but a quick squeedgie with one of these and we're sorted - got ours after a tip on here a couple of years ago. Doesn't solve the problem but its a quick and easy way of dealing with it. HTh

We had terrible probs with condensation in our old flat, we had sash windows too and they were soaked every morning in winter too. It was also causing mildew and wallpaper to start to come away. We did end up buyng a dehumidifier but it was quite noisy and so wasn't on at night so didn't solve the morning problem. We found, having tried everything, that the one and only solution was to get a vent brick installed. It was an easier job than I'd expected and sorted it sraight away.

We get condensation on our wooden windows, it's a real pain (I'm thinking there's a pun in there, but you have to want to see it ), last night I put a glass of water on the window sill, and forgot it was there (!) and this morning no condensation!!! So I don't know if I have stumbled across something or if it was just a coincidence, but I will be trying it again tonight.
