Condenser Tumble Dryer recommendations please

I have got a Lakeland Heated Airer thing and I am not keen and I have been using our local launderette now the weather has turned (we get no light in our garden at this time of year) but it is so much hassle.

So, we have finally decided to take a cupboard out in the kitchen - we removed one when we moved in for the dishwasher! - so we can fit a tumble dryer in.

It can only be a condenser but I have read so many mixed reviews of them that my mind is boggling. Need mumsnet advice please!

Bosch. I've only heard good comments. We bought a Bosch washing machine and Bosch condenser tumble drier when we moved in and 2yrs (isn't long admittedly) down the line both machines are still like brand new and haven't missed a beat.

Bosch dryers don't reverse so they have a habit of tangling everything up. Zanussi & Beko condensers get good reviews.

PippaFawcett · 24/10/2015 20:04

I never knew that was why they reversed, rabbit. Every day is a school day.

I have no complaints about our John Lewis one. We have had it for 4 years.

PippaFawcett · 24/10/2015 20:18

That is reassuring. I did a lot of googling last night and so many people were talking about condensers just making washing hot and damps which made me want to give the idea up completely.

My creda one is 10 years old and its fab. The only thing is that it's not plumbed in so the tank has to be emptied every few loads.

Livelifefortoday · 24/10/2015 20:45

We have an aeg one . It has been fine but can leave clothes damp if it is too full or if I dry towels mixed in with clothes. Apart from that it has been good and I would buy another one.

Paddypaws3 · 24/10/2015 21:53

Beko. It was about £200 but has a sensor (that actually works!) and a massive capacity. After 3 years of heavy use, it's grand!

We bought this one a week ago after doing a reasonable amount of research. It is cheap, has very good reviews and is quite efficient. I have used it a few times and very happy so far.

putcustardonit · 25/10/2015 14:59

I had a Siemens for years that was quite good. It was a complete pain getting it mended though.
Now have a Bosch which dries quickly but needs a lot of random button pressing & has an irritating beep.
DM has a Miele which she loves.

catwithflowers · 27/10/2015 06:50

I love my Bosch

uggmum · 27/10/2015 07:07

I've got a Lakeland heated airer but I'm struggling to dry underwear, towels and bedding now the weather is changing.

I bought a hoover condenser dryer from AO for £269 (it was on offer)
I'm really happy with it. It has sensor dry and the water drains into a container in the door which is really easy to empty and you can instantly see how much water it contains.
Great delivery too. It arrived in 2 days. Delivered for free and they texted me the morning of delivery with a four hour time slot.

ImNotAFlower · 27/10/2015 07:31

My BEKO is fab, the Indisit was useless and the Hotpoint whirlpool was ok but temperamental (disclaimer: I don't blow them up often, two were in rented houses Grin)
My BEKO came from123 electrical online, delivered the next day and they took the old one away free!

EatMeSeymour · 27/10/2015 07:36

I can also recommend the BEKO - that thing was worth every penny. Especially when you consider how much cheaper it is compared to some of the other main brands.

Sensor that works, no tangles, relatively cheap to run.

TotalConfucius · 27/10/2015 07:53

I am on my second Bosch Classix. First one lasted about 12 years. I don't find tangling much of an issue. It has a large water container which doesn't need emptying too often. And the filters are very easy to clean as the whole unit slides out.
When (when) the utility area is finished, I'm going to buy a Bosch Classix washing machine and stack them with the Bosch stacking kit.

PippaFawcett · 27/10/2015 08:18

uggmum, I feel the same about the heated airer. It is good for light things but not good for jumpers, bedding, towels, trousers with thick waistbands etc. So it is a help but not the solution when the weather is so damp.

That is encouraging about the Beko one although I have to say that we bought a Beko dishwasher and wish we had spent the extra to get a Bosch one.

I did look at the Beko ones but I am nervous of the brand since I watched a documentary about their appliances causing house fires.

NotMrsTumble · 27/10/2015 12:37

My only tip would be to look for one where the condensate drain can be plumbed in. My AEG in an old house had this and I just assumed that it would be an available extra on the new bosch bought for the new house. Sadly not, and I'm still irritated by having to carry a full tank of water through the house to the nearest sink.

PippaFawcett · 27/10/2015 14:19

Thanks, NotMrsTumble - your user name is very apt for this thread. Ours would be in the kitchen so that wouldn't bother me.

We bought a John Lewis own brand 10 years ago and it's still going strong. I agree with the pp who said the sensor is not as good if you have a mixed load - if we put a thick sweatshirt in with other clothes, the td thinks all the washing is dry when the sweatshirt will still be damp. But there is also a timer setting so we just bung the sweatshirt back in for 30 minutes.

Ours isn't plumbed in, so we have to empty the tank, but it's not a big deal. The tank slides out and then you tip it down the sink.
