Does this seem a lot to you?

I lived in a ground floor one level flat. 2 bedrooms. Only me and DS (10).

Just looking through my final utility bill. It seems super high.

According to them I used the following amounts of GAS only:

5th - 24 Nov: £46
24 Nov - 24 Dec: £86.62
24 - Dec - 19 Jan: £85.85
19 Jan - 24 Jan: £22

We had central heating. I don't bake loads, just usual quick evening meals. Showers every day.

I must admit I hate being cold...but still.

Does that seem like a lot of gas usage to you? Has anyone had experience of having a faulty meter?

Mine was quite a bit more than that for these months!

I'm also in a ground-floor flat, but it's Victorian with large, high-ceilinged rooms and in a cold part of the country.

Thst spunds about right - our water, heating and cooker is gas.

It's a bit more than ours, but I live in a new build "eco home". Is it an old flat? If you own it you could look in to energy saving measures like draught excluders or cavity wall insulation.

How are you looking at a final bill for
Nov - Jan? We haven't got there yet, or are you way overdue from 2014?

wowfudge · 22/10/2015 18:50

You need actual meter readings to be able to check whether the amounts are correct over all, unless there was a smart meter. What rate were you being charged at?

This is for 2014 MrsLeighHalfpenny. I was with First Utility at my previous address, moved to my new address and so had to open a new account with them which is why they gave me a final bill (for my old address).

It's just that they've made a few errors with my account recently so I wanted to double check my final bill to make sure it was all correct. When I was going through the bill on the phone to the advisor, he's the one planted the seed by saying the gas usage seemed really high, and my mum (in the background) agreed.

honeysucklejasmine it wasn't a new building, and not a block of flats. It was a house converted into two flats. I've just moved into a block of flats though and already I'm noticing how much warmer it is.

wowfudge Most of the readings were estimates because I always forgot to submit the readings but there were times were I had submitted the readings and they did seemed to tally with the estimates. Unit rate per kwh 3.486p.

I tend to switch suppliers whenever there's a better deal, and in all my years of paying direct debit and switching energy suppliers, I always have a credit amount to look forward to. It's the first time I've had a debit (of £276!) so my direct debit must have been set too low.

How have you not paid a bill from the end of 2014 yet?
(I know I'm missing the point!)

cakedup · 24/10/2015 21:53

MrsLeighHalfpenny it's a final bill. I've been paying every month by direct debit, the final bill give you the outstanding bill based on actual gas usage.

I have a five bedroomed house and my average bill in winter is £100- 20 for gas/ electricity combined

DoreenLethal · 25/10/2015 09:38

Unless those were based on actual readings each month, the only readings that are important are the ones that were from the meter.
