Anyone been to the Miele outlet?

Just about to move into a new house from rented and will need to buy all our own white goods. Have had lots of recommendations for Miele washing machines, driers and dishwashers. I see the Miele outlet has greatly discounted machines, was wondering if it was worth making the trip down from Manchester? Anyone been?

There's a Miele outlet round here? Who knew!

tittysprinkles · 21/10/2015 02:58

It's in Abingdon in Oxfordshire apparently.

Read your op incorrectly - thought it was in Manchester!

sparechange · 21/10/2015 11:05

It looks like they've got their stock list and prices on the website, so at least you know in advance if they'll have the appliances in stock

The Miele uk office is Abingdon
Along the main road from M40 to Oxford
Is the outlet there?

PigletJohn · 21/10/2015 13:00

do they sell last years models, or dented/repaired ones?

tittysprinkles · 21/10/2015 13:20

They sell two types apparently. B category items are either ex display or have had less than 50 hours use. C category items have more than 50 hours use and may have superficial dents etc. All have been checked by a Miele engineer and have 2 year warantees. On the list they seem to have current models as well as older models.

I'm quite keen to get the B grade items as we could potentially save £1000+. DH is not convinced though, he feels that reconditioned items like this are more likely to go wrong and the warranty is shorter than somewhere like John Lewis (2y vs 5y).

Also it's not clear from the website if they deliver or not. Would like to know from anyone that's been what sort of condition the machines seem to be in, whether they deliver, general customer service etc. It would be a big trip for us (DH anyway!) to go down there but could be worth it because we need quite a few things.

I was wondering how they knew how many hours use they'd had too? Do Miele machines have a computer that tells you how many cycles you've done?

Yes I think the outlet is in Abingdon Oxon. First I'd heard of it was yesterday.

They do have a computer that can tell you how many hours an appliance has been used (not how many cycles). I recently had my Miele washing machine repaired and they could tell me that it had been used for 5,400 hours.

Another option for cheap Miele appliances is the John Lewis returns/seconds/unwanted goods auction site. A friend of mine got a brand new washing machine from them with an RRP of over £1000 for around £300. No warranties on them though.

rabbit123 · 22/10/2015 08:23

We got our dishwasher from there. Down from £800 to £300, ex-display. They don't deliver.

Anastasie · 22/10/2015 08:27

I wouldn't - I've bought (and almost bought) a few ex display items from a local showroom, (Euronics) which were reduced quite a bit, and still came with their full warranty and had had no use at all. They had just been sitting in the shop.
I got my Miele fridge freezer there which lasted a good 8-9-10 years and was still fine when I bought a new, larger one.

I wouldn't bother making a long trip when you can probably buy an ex display one nearer to home with a proper guarantee.

ringdown

Where is the John Lewis auction site? is it on ebay?.

Buttwing · 22/10/2015 21:31

I know people rave about Miele but my whole kitchen is Miele- steam oven, two ovens, microwave, dishwasher, and coffee machine and plate warmer thingy and one thing to factor in is that no one will touch them when they go wrong. You have to use Miele to repair them and call out is £120. My dishwasher isn't actually Miele anymore because it died last month it's now Bosch and there is no difference in cleaning. It cost me £80 for the Miele engineer to tell me it couldn't be fixedConfusedHmm

PigletJohn · 23/10/2015 09:41

Miele have a policy of witholding parts and manuals from other repairers.

RingDownRingUp · 23/10/2015 10:09

John Pye = JL auction (sorry internet too slow here to do link)

PigletJohn · 23/10/2015 23:38

I can't find John Pye on ebay, though I have fount an auctioneer company of that name.

RingDownRingUp · 24/10/2015 07:39

Yes, that's the one. They're not an eBay shop.
