Help! No dishwasher in otherwise perfect new rented house.

And no where to plumb one in either. Since i want the landlord to think we're the best tenants ever and never make us move i can't start ripping the cupboards out... What can i do? I hate washing up and am in love with the dishwasher at my current house. Do the table top ones work? Could I get 2? How do you plumb them in without making landlords cross? Very grateful for any ideas/advice.

I run mine every other day, it has an onboard water and electric consumption meter and tells me what it's used.

For two days worth it uses 900w of electric and 9lt of water.

You can only ask - we've had landlords put one in 2 different houses for us (wouldn't consider renting without. I don't enjoy washing up)

sumoweeble · 13/10/2015 18:33

I will ask! You are all correct that there is much to gain and nothing to lose. I haven't rented for years so am a bit anxious about the whole shebang. But nothing ventured nothing gained. Thanks for your advice, everyone.

Sorry, I somehow missed all the posts asking why it's such a deal breaker and suggesting washing up by hand is easier/ better. Just to be clear, it's not a deal breaker- we've already signed the tenancy and we're moving inin at the moment. I just somehow didn't notice at the viewing that there was no dishwasher in my excitement at finally finding somewhere good. I'm certainly not backing out because of a dishwasher absence but if there's a way to have one I want one.

You will not get used to being without one. Trust me. We have no room for one in our current house and I have MISSED it. We get one in our next house, and it's the most exciting thing about it IMO Grin

We've just had a slimline one fitted in our tiny tardis cottage kitchen (which already houses the washing machine and a tumble drier). Best thing ever! Hope your landlord agrees to get one OP!

poocatcherchampion · 14/10/2015 08:00

In my experience once you have had one you can't go back. So people who are saying it isn't a deal breaker may be coming from the point of not having had one.

Fundamentally it is a labour saving device, once yoy have saved that labour you don't want to reinstate it

Tarzanlovesgaby · 14/10/2015 08:07

is there space for a table top one?

HellKitty · 14/10/2015 08:08

You can get more in a slimline one than you think!
I went from house with dishwasher to rental with no dishwasher and soon got used to hand washing for a family of 5 - they also mucked in and washed up more than I thought they would. Tbh it got me more organised as you have to wash, dry then put away. The next rental had one and we're about to buy a house that has two Shock

Back in the mid 14th century 1980s I grew up as part of a large family with a counter-top dishwasher. It worked fine but for our family only took plates glasses and cutlery, we still washed up saucepans. Ifor you don't mind keeping a stack of unwashed things on the counter waiting for the first load to finish you could get away with it.

We had an identical problem. We made it a condition while signing that we'd put one in & remove 1 cabinet. We put in a Bosch & lived there 2.5 years. While leaving the landlord bought it off us for a good price. In all we paid £10 per month that we stayed there. Great deal for everyone. However the landlord had not committed to buying it when we moved in so it was a bit of a risk we took. We kept the cabinet safe & promised to make everything good when we left if we took the dishwasher with us.

There is lots and lots of worktop space so I could get a table top one or even 2! But I am not sure how they plumb in?

OP posts:
Tarzanlovesgaby · 14/10/2015 19:56

they plumb in the same way as a full size one or a washing mashine.

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 17/10/2015 15:40

I'd love to have two. Then I could keep filling one whilst the other was on/waiting to be emptied.

And yeah, who the heck wants to wash dishes by hand? Makes a mess and you have no-where to store the dishes while you're waiting for a full load. Or do you wash every frigging spoon as soon as you use it?
