I'm moving this week, hopefully Wednesday.

I need some help from you lovely lot as I'm absolutely dreading it!
I have access to new house already so can start moving less important things.
Have DS16, DD8 and DS2 to consider as well as the fourth child DH Grin and our wonderful Dog.

Only moving a mile away, am off work all week and have a van to help. Unfortunately, DH must be in work all week so it's down to me. I can rope in some help for the heavy things but I'm more worried about moving the fiddly things like clothes, DCs items, kitchenware, TVs. I'm also really determined to use this to declutter and reorganise new home efficiently.
Thank you all in advance

Wednesday? As in the day after tomorrow? Shock

Sorry, not helpful! That's a lot to do, is your 2 YO home with you, or at nursery?

Do you have boxes?

That's a massive amount to do in a very short space of time - could you declutter as you unpack, rather than the other way around?

I think in your shoes I'd probably go into each room one at a time. Get 2 boxes (1 for things to move, 1 for chartiy shop) and a bin bag. Work around the room, packing things into the appropriate box (or bag if it's rubbish) as you go.

If you think you'll have a lot of stuff for charity shops maybe ring 'round and see if anywhere can come and collect on Tuesday afternoon?

Can you get the older DCs to do their own rooms?

We have just moved with a 3 YO and I'm 7 months pg so I feel your pain! We used a part-packing service this time but I wanted to do the smaller stuff so I could have a good clear out too - filled 2 skips! When it got down to packing I still didn't really know where to start but our movers had these guides. I tweeted them asking how to pack mirrors and they put the last one up especially for me! www.vanmanexeter.co.uk/faqs/
Happy moving!

I would start by de-cluttering asap then packing. You don't want to move any unnecessary items.

Start with one room and work your way through, decluttering then packing. There will be more of a sense of achievement if you can say 'bedroom is packed' etc.

Start with the items that are easy to move and non essential like DVDs, clothes, books, ornaments and leave kitchen til last.

Good luck xx

I've found its useful to put fragile or important things (inc. jewellery, prescriptions etc) into containers, like small suitcases, shopping bags etc and keep these locked in the car/boot until the rest is transferred to new house. Add kettle, picnic cups, tea/coffee etc so you'll be able to find the important stuff without hunting, and make up beds and organise food as soon as reasonably possible.
