Anyone tried eco eggs or eco balls for washing?

Just had a recommendation on one of my other posts for eco eggs. Has anyone else tried them (or eco balls), what did you think and do you continue to use them?

To be honest I'm considering them from the point of view of saving money, but obviously need to make sure they last and clean clothes.

I tried them and thought they were tripe; I found they gave the exact result as washing with no detergent at all

My neighbour swears by them, however she doesn't wear anything until it's dirty.

Apparently they work by oxygenating the water and allowing it to pass between fibres more easily, but it reality the results are poor.

I tried them for a while but I gave up after everything turned a sort of pinkish grey and my washer started to stink.

they work entirely by magic, so if you do not have faith, you will be disappointed.

You can save a bit of soap powder by adding washing soda crystals to your wash, they soften the water and make the soap dissolve better, also break down grease. This also keeps your washer cleaner.

They're utter pants, OP, you're better off looking out for offers on your usual detergent and doing as PigletJohn says

Anyone? I think everyone has tried them at some point.

Now, it's your turn!

wafflyversatile · 03/09/2015 17:33

No need for that comma. I do apologise.

Tried and abandoned. My mother is waaay more enviro-conscious than I and with iron-willpower persevered for almost two years with hers before binning them. Not worth it. You are better with an eco-liquid and an occasional hot wash to stop the machine smelling manky.

what they all said
learn from our experience OP and save your pennies

the funny thing is that clothes and washers build up an accumulation of soap deposits, so for the first couple of weeks of nuts, this soap will dissolve into the water and it will even foam. This makes people think that the nuts actually do some good.
