Blocked toilet advice

Hi,

Our downstairs loo has been blocked for a few days. We had some friends over and we discovered it blocked after they left, so I don't know... Ahem... what the blockage is...
The toilet flushes, the water fills to the top of the bowl and then gradually drains away - so it's not completely blocked.

I've tried the usual flushing and prodding with the toilet brush but it's not budging.

Any magical mumsnet advice?

TIA

Have you tried a mop? I've wasted a few mops but it works everytime, as can holding a kettle full of water from a height and pouring it down loo. Good luck

Rubber gloves, a carrier bag and get your hands under the Ubend. Turn your head away and rely totally on touch. Grab as much as you can and it should dislodge the blockage.
Do not use boiling water.

I second the mop works everytime for me too

A plunger should be sufficient.

Alternatively, get a mop, cover the head with a plastic bag (increases the surface area ) and plunge away.

You can buy a thick dark liquid that you pour on the blockage and leave overnight. It's very toxic but will leave your waste pipes squeaky clean.

My kids are always blocking the loo! If the above don't work you could try caustic soda but you have to be very careful. It tells you on the bottle to use gloves and how much water to dilute it with. If you pour it down when the water level is low it will probably clear within about an hour. Don't use the bucket for anything else after that as it's really toxic!

Lots of water - bucket loads, to start with.
I have a power thing I got from B and Q (plunger fits on a pressurised container), it fixed a sink blockage and can be used on toilets.

Thanks for the replies. Our mop is quite new so I'm reluctant... Will see if I can find an alternative

Thank you! 5 buckets of water shifted it!
