Washing powder?

Hey you lot :D
Right, since DS2 had a really nasty reaction to Surf (the lavender one) hes been using Fairy or Persil non bio, now, he fancies a change but he doesnt know what would be worth a try, I've been thinking about suggesting Daz or a different scent of Surf (he had the pink one before the lavender one and he was fine) but neither him or myself know what may be worth a go.
N/B: he uses 40 and 90deg washes and always uses extra rinse on a normal cottons programme.
Thanks everyone :)

I use far less than the recommended amount. We're in a very soft water area so we can get away with using about 60ml.

We're in a soft/medium area as well

You can use even less powder if you use half soda crystals and half powder. I'm intrigued (just nosy really) that he lives at home and has his own washing machine in the garage.

I'm pretty sure it's the fact it's Ecover rather than he's using less than directed which has been responsible for the smell in the past.

Are there any unfragranced bios? I can't abide fragranced laundry so we use Fairy tablets, which also have the benefit of leaving the detergent drawer spotless unlike liquids and are less messy than powders, but they don't always get dirt out, we end up using stain removers quite a bit.

Soda crystals Time?

Use less product and add crystals so not as intense a smell?

AsTimeGoesBy · 24/08/2015 07:37

I do use soda crystals when I remember. I don't want any fragrance at all, I hate it.

CarpeJugulum · 24/08/2015 07:39

Hmm. My method is the least smelly stuff I know - delicate but still there. What about some of the other e products - e-cover is it?

CarpeJugulum · 24/08/2015 07:40

Yup, E-cover. Looks like they do free samples too.

AsTimeGoesBy · 24/08/2015 07:44

Sorry, not trying to be awkward but Ecover liquid is awful, I used to use it, it left the drawer in an awful state and the washing went musty if you left it in the machine for more than about 5 mins after the cycle ended.

AsTimeGoesBy · 24/08/2015 07:45

I found the fragrance of the Method one I tried (Gardenia I think?) very strong.

Missingsleepandthecat · 24/08/2015 10:58

wow he has ASD, its one of his interests, me and DH dont mind because its not doing anyone any harm.
I did find whilst Ecover is good at cleaning, it was rather sudsy!

I used the blue one (free MNet trial) and it wasn't bad. But I find other stuff really strong - I think we are all sensitive to different smells.

Fairy powder is the only one that doesn't bring on my eczema

Missingsleepandthecat · 24/08/2015 14:42

Hello ladies!
I've gotten him a box of Daz today, we shall give it a go.
Thanks for your help, I know everyones skin is different but I thought if I asked for some suggestions it'd make it a bit easier to choose a decent one Smile

Fingers crossed. Apologies for being nosy OP.

My DS has ASD too, he was completely obsessed with the washing machine when he was younger, unfortunately now at 11 he shows as little interest as any other pre-teen.

Missingsleepandthecat · 24/08/2015 15:17

Lol, dont worry wow :)
Time he used to be obsessed with it when he was younger but now its more a case of he likes doing the washing if that makes sense? he likes music too :)

Just thought I'd update you all, DS2 tried the daz, he liked it and its scent, hes tried Surf the pink one and the yellow one and had no reaction at all to either and the results seem a bit better too, he's sticking to these from now on, again, thanks for your suggestions :)
