Are Dysons crap?

My Dyson seems to get less effective by the day. Should I be cleaning the filters all the time? Am I supposed to take it somewhere to get serviced? Do people do that? I'm tempted to just buy a new one in the hope that a new vacuum will encourage me to use it a bit more! But I wouldn't know what to do with the old one - would a charity shop take it do you think?

I have two early dysons DC7 and a DC14 (pick up a carboot sale). The DC7 had since new. Yes filters have been replaced a few times and a few of the other parts plus I did put in a new motor about 6 months ago (cost under £20 on ebay and with help from you tube no problem). You do need to clean the fliters regular, keep an eye out for cracked piped on the underside, very easy to replace. Plus check for block in the pipes, manual shows how to do this.

As I now know how to strip down a dyson a got my second one at a car boot sale put a new motor in and replaced fliters working like a new dyson and saved me £££. I have also found many a person like myself who have older dysons and swear by them as they are very easy to repair and keep going.

Hated my Dyson - only lasted 18 months. Bad customer service and massively overpriced.

I've had mine 7 years, it had a new foam filter for is 6th birthday and I gave it a full wash - normally just give the foam filter a bang on an outside wall every week or so and wash it properly rarelyevery 6 months out so.

I love mine, after its new filter and a wash it was like brand new.

Yes. That is all.

Bought one in 2002 and it's hoovered up all manner of things from small bits of rubble to pet hair. It's been smacked into furniture, fallen over, and generally abused but still works (picks up much more than my small handheld other brand hoover does) However it is really on its last legs now and I'm looking for a replacement before it finally conks out.

Have a cordless animal Dyson. It is ok on carpets. Sometimes it stops as the fibres get stuck and I have to stick my fingers in and pull them through. I have a rubber broom to separately gather loose fibres from rugs.

One very handy vacuum I bought is the Shark mini. It is the lightest little thing and I use it on the stairs and for small jobs in the kitchen with crumbs etc. I like the shark mini very much. Handy to have the two.

Our Dyson (bought in 2013) was heavy, loud and although it seemed to pick up ok, when we replaced it with a Shark a couple of months ago, we realised how crap it was. We’ve been really impressed by Shark, and bought a new handheld that works well too. I can’t see myself going back to Dyson.

WeatherwaxOn · 15/05/2021 10:19

That'll teach me. Mine has just died! Still, it worked very well for 19 years and was well worth the £200 or so we paid back then.
Need to work out what will be a suitable replacement now.

The owner of Dyson company is crap

Cailleach1 · 16/05/2021 15:38

If (when?) my Dyson dies, I will probably get a shark. I have been so impressed with the shark mini.
