Washing up liquid in a dishwasher - help!

MissDemelzaCarne · 10/08/2015 23:10

I'm in a holiday appartment with a dishwasher (and a load of dirty dishes) and no dishwasher tablets.
There is some washing up liquid but I've heard horror stories about foam.
Can I do it??

not a good idea, I wouldn't do it.

allowme · 10/08/2015 23:16

No don't do it!
Unless you like the idea of 3 feet of foam covering the kitchen (bitter experience)
Just put it through with nothing, most of it will be clean you can leave the rest 'till tomorrow.

PrimalLass · 10/08/2015 23:21

I do it quite often. It has never gone foam-tastic yet.

MissDemelzaCarne · 10/08/2015 23:26

Oh no, a mixed response - now I don't know what to do!!

VivaLeBeaver · 10/08/2015 23:27

Nooooo. I did it. Foam was a foot deep!

MissDemelzaCarne · 10/08/2015 23:28

How about a teeny tiny drop??

MissDemelzaCarne · 10/08/2015 23:29

It's cheap washing up liquid - will that help?

gamerchick · 10/08/2015 23:29

Don't you have a sink, a plug and hot water?

PrimalLass · 10/08/2015 23:32

How odd. I put a couple of squirts in the bit where the tablet goes. They come out a bit dull but never that foamy. And I live in a soft water area.

MissDemelzaCarne · 10/08/2015 23:33

No, there's a sink, no plug and no hot water,
I'm also a little bit pissed so thought I'd check with the MN jury rather than trust my own judgement. Wink

No! I did it once. Kitchen covered in bubbles.

sunnydaylucy · 10/08/2015 23:41

No! IME very foamy kitchen. Took longer to clean up than it would have done to wash the pots by hand.

HexBramble · 10/08/2015 23:43

I wouldn't. Got any washing machine tablets? Or any soda crystals?

ApplesinmyPocket · 10/08/2015 23:45

Since struggling for six months with gritty deposits left on crockery using conventional tablets/powder, I decided to try washing up liquid one day and have never looked back.

I use the cheap value WUL which doesn't make much lather/bubbles and only fill the powder chamber a third full.

I did ONCE get the foam on the floor/programme stalled due to 'flood' effect, but it was only once - must have used too much WUL that day - against hundreds of successful washes.

I wouldn't say it's quite so good as the tablets/powder on heavily soiled things so I tend to rinse them first, but things come out dry and shining and I'm happy with it for now.

Finola1step · 10/08/2015 23:48

Just run it through without a tab for now. Then buy a cheapo box tomorrow and run through again properly.

MissDemelzaCarne · 10/08/2015 23:48

Guess what - I've done it!! Smile
Just a tiny drop, fuck knows what will happen! We're on the fith floor so apologies to anyone on the fourth floor. Wink

DP emptied a bottle of fairy in to the dishwasher while drunk, foam everywhere.

AWayToGo · 11/08/2015 00:12

Was going to say just wash the stuff without any detergent at all - the hot water will get most of the grot off.

MissDemelzaCarne · 11/08/2015 08:54

It was fine, the white tea cups are all still tea-stained though.
I would say, judging from the viscosity, that the washing up liquid has been watered down.
I'll buy a scourer today, or just put more in next time. Wink

PigletJohn · 11/08/2015 11:12

ffs just buy some dwr tabs.

KumiOri · 11/08/2015 11:14

don't do it unless you want a foam party.
just let it run without any, the hot water will do the job unless the dishes are very dirty.

wowfudge · 11/08/2015 11:43

Why not just ring the management contact and ask them to drop some dishwasher tablets round? They are usually provided (in limited quantities ime). If you buy some yourself, just take the pack home with you.
